I really wanted to like this, love the speed and the form factor, but the constant noise from the fan starts get annoying when spending the amount of time I have to spend in front of my computer.

Absolutely love it, fan and all. Great solution for those with an M4 Mac Mini who did not have deep pockets at time of purchase to upgrade the base HD size.

This external SSD (1Tb) works well, has very fast data transfer, is priced well, and is a good visual match for the M4 Mac mini -- all the things I was looking for. Unfortunately, the loud fan noise is unacceptable. While the fan in the Mac Mini is just a hair above silent, the Orico SSD has a constant loud whine whenever the computer is powered on. This is not a fan that cycles with the heat generated by the unit, which would be tolerable, but rather is constant regardless of reading/writing/inactivity on the SSD.Accordingly, it gets a good score for its actual functionality, but a failing score for usability. Not recommended.

Correct fan is a little loud but tolerable.Really wanted a quieter 2TB 40gb external like this but settled formthe 1TB, maybe they'll make one in future. Even better if they make one again 2TB 40gb speed thinderbolt, for the Mac Mini to sit verticle for no blockage of WiFi, more USB-C ports, and easier access to power button.
