These were way better than I expected. We just flip them over to save battery and I used them all last summer on the weekends without issues.

I previously purchased solar lights that came with plastic mason jars. That product is very nice...however, I purchased this product because I had mason jars sitting in my garage and wanted to make use of them. Installing the Ostritec Solar Lights to my existing jars is absolutely lovely as they are brighter, more vibrant than my previous purchase.

While this is a fun product I was so excited to get them outside i didn't check them all on arrival. I purchased a dozen because I had it planned out for spacing along the walkway through the side yard. I only had 8 shepherds hooks, so I ordered 4 more of those (but they were going to take much longer to receive). So I quickly put 8 jars with these lights inside outside. Out of the four remaining tops I discovered just before the shepherd hooks arrived that two of the lids were so bent they would not screw on to the lids. My brother who can usually fix anything even tried - to no avail. I contacted Amazon who put me through to the distributor. They responded within 2-3 days but they couldn't replace the two bent lids (the reason given because it was an Amazon order - which didn't make a great deal of sense to me )- but would offer me a refund for the two unusable lids. I agreed to the refund (even though I really wanted a total of 12) and the refund was forthcoming within 7-10 days. These give off a nice amount of light when they get sufficient sunlight to recharge. When the shepherds hooks arrive I discovered that the other two lids when turned on (on the bottom, inside of the lid is an on/off switch that you need to push to on to start the lights - as well as pulling out the small piece of plastic that covers the battery connection) stayed on even in daylight. The other lids when turned on would only light up when it was dark. I was concerned that this would make them less effective or perhaps not light up at night at all. But so far they seem to be working at night. I have some of the lids on "Ball" jars and others on "Mason" jars (not sure if there is a difference) but neither jar is a perfect tight easy connection with these lids. They screw on it a tilted fashion but so far I have noticed any moisture in the jars. I took the advice of one review and put a little vaseline around the rim of the jars before screwing the lids on. The lids will eventually rust and be hard to remove & this will supposedly help with making them easier to remove. I used to have another type of solar lid where there was just a light shining down into the jar (no lights on a wire) and while they lasted about 3 years, they got water in them every time it rained and I was constantly having to remove the lids & dump out the water. I'll be real happy if these last that long and don't require dumping water. They certainly look like a fairy garden at night (now if they just had an added feature that kept the deer away - am I asking for a miracle?). I've got them spaced about every 5 feet (was meant to be every 3 feet with a dozen) and they do an excellent job of lighting up the pathway at night. Most last through the entire night, some only for about 4 hours - I have noticed some of them flickering after a few hours - I think this is because they didn't get enough direct sunlight. Weirdly I watched them during a serious thunderstorm and each time lightning would light up the sky the lights would go off! After a couple seconds they would come back on. That's how little light it takes to turn them off. Bottom line check all the lids before removing them from their individual plastic packaging so if any are damaged you can return for exchange and hope the next ones are all in good shape. Then get delighted to see how happy the night looks with jars of "fireflies" lighting up your space.
