The adhesive isn't strong enough, they are a waste of money.

I have a straw hat that has seen quite a few miles and I would like to keep it for many more miles. These crown insert repair strips allowed me to reinforce a weak, frequently stressed part of the crown of the hat. It helped to restore some shate to the crown and should help the straw last for more trips and parties as it continues to develop character.

I'm a Panama hat lover. That's a necessity for me because I have a bald head that sunburns easily. I tend to purchase the thinner Panama hats because they're cooler in the hot Texas sun. Of course, I'm not supposed to take my hat off by grasping it at the crease of the crown, but almost everybody I know does. So the crown of the hat gets worn and can lose shape quickly. When I saw these repair kits, I ordered one thinking that it would be better than the white athletic tape I typically use to reinforce/repair my hats' crowns. When I received the strips, they looked a lot like the athletic tape in color, weight, and texture (white). To use the strips, you dip them in water and then place them in the crown of the hat. After putting the strip in place, it was like I had carefully cut a strip of athletic tape and repaired my hat crown. In short, these strips are a good idea, but they're way expensive for a product that has many more economical alternatives. A roll of athletic tape costs about $1 and can repair several dozen hats. Oh, btw, I should mention that these strips go on the inside of the hat, not the outside. So the fact that I'm using athletic tape instead of a specialized repair strip isn't noticeable.

It’s just pre-glued canvas, but it works.

I have a straw Stetson cowboy hat that gets a lot of wear, and I want to make sure that it lasts as long as possible. I've been concerned about the peak at the front of the crown for some time, as it it the natural spot to grab to remove the hat and to put it back on, and it's also the spot that is the most vulnerable to cracking. Since applying one of these strips to the inside, I'm pretty confident that it has extended the life of my hat by additional years! The product was very simple to apply; just get the strip wet, and then press it into place on the inside of the hat. After several hours (or one day, per the instructions) the strip will have hardened and creates a nice reinforced backing to the vulnerable crease of the hat's crown.
