I got this as a gift for my musically inclined friend, and it looks nice! I couldn't get any clear sounds out of it, but I am not as musical as he is. He has been working on figuring it out, but I will update when I know how it sounds. The size and look is fantastic for a costume prop, I'm just hoping it works as an instrument too.

First 6-7 notes are in tune but not the upper ones. It's okay because I can tune it myself, when I get around to it. Add some wax or glue inside to make it sharp and use sandpaper to make them flat. One of the pipes is leaking but some glue will fix it. Not perfect, but for the price it's great and worth 5 stars, imo. Try making one yourself and it'll take way longer than the cost of these pipes. I've made many bamboo flutes myself and know what it takes.

Quite a few reviews claim that these are ornamental and not instruments. Ignore those reviews as it seems to me that they were written by people who simply did not know how they were to be played. For example, one person took a picture of the closed ends of the pipes and said that she nearly blew her brains out trying to blow them open. I give her kudos for her attempt, but that's totally the wrong way to play a panpipe. These are not recorders. You don't blow through the pipe.Instead, you blow over the opening. Think of filling up coke bottles with various amounts of liquid. Then, blow across the openings to get your notes. When I first got it, I couldn't get a sound. I handed it to my husband, who immediately got it going. I realized by watching him that I needed to angle my lips just right and blow at just the right speed (not too soft, but not too hard either). I never did learn to whistle, so perhaps that's why I didn't instinctively figure it out like my husband. In any case, I played through each note, checking for accuracy in the pitch. All sounded right at labeled. (Pitches are labeled with solfege. Note that what is commonly called 'ti' here in the US is called 'si' over there.)
