I purchased this vacuum in October of 2014 and use it exclusively to clean my pellet stove. It's lightweight, compact, powerful and easy to empty and clean. I recommend wearing hearing protection as It is quite loud. Overall, I find it an excellent product and great value.

My fireplace was full of ash and ash vac did the job. It was quick and easy. The only problem was the some pieces were large and would get stuck resulting in having to turn it off. The motor would heat up.Other than that it worked very well. Glad I purchased it.

This vacuum is quite powerful and cleaned my wood stove thoroughly, in a matter of only a few minutes. The motor does run "warm" (as other have mentioned) but that's probably a reflection of its high output. The only problem that I've had so far is in emptying it -- static causes ashes to cling to the every part of the vacuum's surface , inside and out, when it is opened for ash disposal -- which I now do outside and with a brush and damp rag handy! The clean-up of the unit took much longer than the actual stove vacuuming. There is a small chain that hangs from the bottom of the unit, apparently to provide a "ground" to bleed off any static charge, but this is only useful if it is truly grounded, which it's not inside the average living room.An edit a year later: I'm still quite pleased with the unit, but I came across an issue that may explain some other users' complaints of the motor overheating and subsequently shutting down. Small chunks of charred wood can clog the hose at its two coupling points. They can go unnoticed since they are inside the couplings. The unit still vacuums and sounds the same, but then the motor suddenly shuts down from overheating, a consequence of the markedly increased resistance it must now work against. I removed the hose, removed the constricting chunks, then reassembled the unit which resumed working as it should. So, keep your hose clean.

This is my second PowerSmith PAVC101 ash vacuum. The first gave me many years of good service. I am blown away by the clarity, simplicity and completeness of the instruction manual. The photoimages of each step in the assembly are excellent. I wish all assembly/user manuals could do the same. The vacuum is solidly built, quieter than my earlier vac, and now has a second filter which protects the motor. I feel that they have an excellent product.

Admittedly, I haven't used it long, but I've used it in my fireplace a few times now. This works perfectly if you're not pretending to be a fireball conjuring wizard by vacuuming hot embers into it; exactly like the very first instruction in the book says not to do.This provides the proper amount of suction for removing fine ash from your fireplace without pulling so hard on anything thicker that it might clog your tube. This bit is perfect.If you're new to these and wondering if it is normal for the top part to get warm/hot even though you're vacuuming ash that has cooled for a while, the answer is yes. That is normal and it's expected you'll need to let it cool after use.The filter inside of this is very good quality and not one bit of ash escapes through it. If properly sealed, this will not blow ash into the room.Another thing I noticed was that I was getting tiny static shocks from time to time if I touched the metal tube. Thankfully, this was also addressed in the accompanying documentation and is normal/expected due to dry ash rubbing past the metal tube as you vacuum. To avoid this, I don't touch that part and will occasionally tap it against the metal frame of my fireplace to let it discharge. They've included a dangling chain on the unit to help with this, but depending on what kind of flooring you have, this may or may not help.Overall, it performs very well. I'm happy with the purchase.
