Since becoming disabled, the care of our above-ground saltwater pool has fallen to my adult son. Neither of us enjoys using test strips, and even with good quality testing kits, it’s hard to stay motivated and reading some of the color charts is a challenge. When I saw this digital tester, I jumped at the opportunity to simplify our routine. We mainly needed it because our Intex Saltwater Generator is known for its "low salt" glitch. When the alert pops up, it's critical for us to know if it’s just the glitch or if the generator has truly failed (we’re on our second unit now—it’s cheaper to replace the whole generator than just the salt cell rod, I will never be without one again).The tester has made life much easier. My son initially misread the directions and we had to order a 12.88 EC calibration solution to recalibrate it (the tester comes with three pH calibration solutions, but the EC solution is necessary anyway for salt calibration). Recalibration was quick and simple. Once set up, we compared its readings to a sample run through our local pool store’s computer system, and both results matched which gives us confidence in its accuracy. My son is much happier now not having to mess around with strips just to check the salt level.There have been no drawbacks so far. I would absolutely recommend this tester to anyone managing a saltwater pool who wants a more straightforward and reliable testing method without the guesswork of strips or color charts. At $37, I feel silly for not having purchased one when I purchased the pool!

I think this is a decent PH / TDS tester but it does come with some caveats. It says you need to calibrate it every two weeks, which is kind-of nuts. My bluelab PH pen does cost a bit over twice as much but it only needs to be calibrated once per growing season.The next issue is that this comes with the calibration solution, 3 point, which frankly sucks to have to do a 3 point calibration, most are two point, however it does not come with the 1413 TDS calibration solution. I think they should have opted out of the three point calibration and stuck with the two point calibration for PH and included the TDS calibration, that's just my humble opinion.The probe appears to be accurate when testing PH and TDS for now, so far so good, who knows how long that will last and I have my doubts. For now though, it functions well but it does appear that a little wiggling of the end and the PH / TDS reading fluctuates a lot. This might not be so important when it comes to testing a pool but for hydroponics all it takes is one bad batch of water and your plants are screwed. I will say it's super easy to calibrate and equally easy to use, and it costs close to one third of a real PH tester, which also you would have to buy a TDS tester as well so there is definitely value here presuming it continues to work properly. All in all, I recommend this product for entry level PH / TDS use and if there is a barrier of entry for you with regards to cost, this might be a good option at least to get your head into hydroponics or understanding your pool / hot tub's PH. I do recommend purchasing some storage solution for the probe because you will need to store it properly for it to have any chance of continuing to function long term.

I lost my TDS meter, so got this meter to replace it. This unit is capable of measuring pH, TDS, Temperature, Salinity, and EC. I wanted this because it has a nice, large digital display. I'm not needing to measure pH, often, but thought it would be a nice feature to have, just in case if I do. This meter measures pH by default, but the pH needs to be calibrated, if you want an accurate pH measurement. EC can be calibrated, as well.Contents:Instruction Manual3 calibration fluids2 AAA batteries installed, and with an extra set of batteries.Nice box, that you can keep everything stored in.Overall, the TDS and temperature measurements look very accurate. I also like the box, and that it came with extra batteries. So no complaints.

I got this digital multi-tester probe to check the chemistry of my pool water and ensure it's properly balanced. Until now, I've been taking my water samples to the local Pinch-a-Penny every week, which has been a chore since it's more than 10 miles away from my place. Now, with this new probe, I only need to go once a month to buy the necessary chemicals & check the water to ensure the probe is working as it should.For the most part, this multi-tester works as advertised, which is to say it's mostly accurate and fairly easy to use. However, I had to calibrate it each time before use. The pH meter's accuracy was on par with the results I got from Pinch-a-Penny & the TDS results were close, but I never figured out how to test for the salt properly since my results with the probe were never the same as the results from Pinch-a-Penny's analysis. The kit that comes with the probe includes calibration solutions for pH but didn't include calibration for TDS or salt, which I think should've been included. As it stands, I think I will purchase those calibration solutions separately to hopefully improve the accuracy and reliability of the TDS & salt readings. Additionally, it's important to keep the probe stationary in the water sample for at least 10 seconds, since whenever I moved the probe, I ended up with different readings, which made it frustrating to use. Lastly, make sure to wash the probe with deionized water after each use to prevent any salt or minerals from drying & building up on it, which can lead to issues in future readings. Overall, this is a good multi-tester probe if you take good care of it and use proper calibration solutions to ensure it remains accurate and reliable.

This is not my first electronic water tester. I've used them for years, so there is some basis for comparison. Previous models have come factory-calibrated, with some description of how to recalibrate in the future. Typically, this recalibration is for salt, though, which is ok but not as critical as pH for me. This one comes factory-calibrated for salt, but the inclusion of calibration fluids to use before first use is fantastic. The process was simple and really gives me confidence in my measurements. When you are basing one of the core measurements for pool chemistry on pH, that is a huge win. Needless to say, I am really loving this new meter!
