Can't get over how light this thing is much nicer than the metal telescoping unit. Especially on a kayak where keeping weight down is key

I bought it well less than a year ago and sold my boat, just bought a new one and used it for two fish and it snapped. I’m super disappointed and I don’t know how to contact the manufacturer and I can’t afford a new one. It’s really a bummer it looked great and was sharp.

Well built and lightweight. Zero complaints.

For starters, the gaff itself is gorgeous. Beautiful wrapping job with the grips. The 4ft size is perfect for my small boat. Like others mentioned, I wish there was a lanyard hole and tether for the cap.Unfortunately, the gaff I received is not sharp at all. It has a blunt tip (see photos). This isn't the worst problem, as I can run to the store and pick up a metal file to sharpen it up, but disappointed nonetheless. This is my first gaff, but I assume a gaff should be as sharp as hooks (let me know if I am wrong about that). I may see if I can get a replacement, since other reviewers have praised its sharpness.

After seeing this gaff at the Fred Hall Show, an annual So Cal fishing and outdoors extravaganza, I knew I wanted one. This became even more evident after having used one on a friend's boat. After receiving an Amazon gift card for my birthday it was time to get what I wanted! My Background: I'm in my early 50s, been fishing since I could walk and got a lot more into the salt in my teens. I fish off of friend's boats, my own when I had them, kayaks and party boats. I have used gaffs in all these venues. Some were ones that I made myself, some were gaffs that I had bought and some were bought/provided by the owner of the boat I was on (those long Calcutta gaffs on long-range boats). As mentioned above, I have used this model Promar gaff, as well as other models of similar design, from Promar. I have one of their telescopic less expensive ones that I have used on my kayaks in the past, knowing full well that I would eventually like to upgrade. I tend to shop and compare when it comes to most items, being tools, sporting equipment, or whatever. I was immediately impressed by the detail and quality of the build in this gaff. It is lightweight without feeling cheap or flimsy in the hands.Quick hits:- Lightweight carbon fiber - feels solid!- Sharp stainless hook (would have liked a tether for the point cover though)- Nice turks-head finishing touches with a solid tuna-cord wrap and more than ample flex-coat on the wraps for no-slip grip even with slimy wet hands- Rubber butt cap will prevent scratches to your boat and also protects the carbon fiber blank from impact that could lead to fractureThe only thing I would have liked would have been a tether for the point cover, but I was able to adapt (most fisherpeople are innovative) and I used the elastic loop that the tag was attached with to make a tether to keep from losing the cover. This is a great gaff. Promar and their sister company, Ahi, make solid products that are a decent portion of my stash of gear. I know they stand behind what they make and sell and, talking to the staff at the fishing shows, they put a lot of research into their products before they hit the market. Even afterward, they continue to look for ways to improve what they sell. There are some brands I buy with confidence - Craftsman, DeWalt, Shimano, Daiwa. Promar and Ahi are another. Can't wait to break this thing in!
