I have quite a few server drivers laying around the lab. Anytime I go to use them you get quite a mess of wires. The fact that this is a hat is amazing for keeping things tidy.Obviously you'd use these for prototyping, and with it being so compact you COULD use it in a final version of your setup, however, as usual you'd still be better off eventually building a custom single board setup once you're ready to put it all together.Highly recommend if you're doing any robotics work.

Kid tested it with his zero W pi thing and it moved the motor fine, he will build some spider this weekend with the 3d parts I'm making him.Being 16 channel this will be perfect for the octo-bots!

I tested the hat with a Pi Zero, and it worked really well.This tiny board can control up to 16 motors, that's awesome.

While it might not be immediately obvious, this is a Waveshare servo driver hat for Raspberry Pi.I haven't fully programmed this board, but did power it up to confirm it was working and that the servo would initialize. I've used other Waveshare boards and they all work great, so I have no doubt this will be any different.When ordered here, no instructions are included and the only indication this is a Waveshare board is from the printing on the back of the pcb. In my opinion, this might make it a difficult entry point for new users who want to try their hand at building/programming robotics but need a little extra guidance. The Waveshare wiki has a full tutorial with code examples that some users may not know to look for. Further, Waveshare direct offers this exact same board at a decent savings - even when adding in shipping.So my 4-star rating isn't due to the quality of the board (that is 5-star all day), but rather based on the lack of included instructions (or any indication where to find them) and the higher price. Make no doubt that this is a great board that offers a lot of flexibility and control in programming servos and I would recommend that without pause.

This is a great servo hat for raspberry pi. Of course, you don’t have to use it with a PI, although it has a 40 pin header specifically for the pi. But you can also just connect any MCU that uses I2C protocol to control servos with this board if you solder a header pin (it doesn’t come with the header, but it’s designed to accept one).This lets you control up to 16 servos with I2C, and you can several different I2C addresses, and supply up to 12V external power for the motors -- although you need to remove a zero ohm resistor for this. How do I know this? Because Waveshare products are awesome, and they have very excellent documentation on their online wiki pages for every one of their products. This one had a page that details how to operate it, install it on a Pi, and includes sample code. Thank you Waveshare! 5 stars.
