I purchased this folding shovel to carry with me when I take the dogs out on my property because they love to dig out the gophers on the fields and I wanted to help them. I plan to use it during the time of the year when the ground is damp. With no rain in the summer, the clay soil becomes cement hard. I won’t be using it then and the dogs won’t be digging in the hard ground anyway. (Even a regular shovel with a sturdy handle has trouble digging then!) It sets up quickly and and I can switch from shovel to pick fairly easily. When locked in place, it does not feel as sturdy as a one-piece non-folding tool but I am aware of that and I don’t intend to stress it unduly. It slices through the grass roots, which is where the dogs have the most trouble so it’s working great for me.

It’s easy to assemble and disassemble. The size and sturdiness is a great bonus! The appearance is what first caught my eye and when I received the shovel the pictures did it justice. The fact that it’s heavier adds to the picks potential and makes moving ground easier. The paint does chip over time but just like any other tool if you use it enough. It’s a little bigger than expected when folded up in my bag so it fits a little awkwardly but depending on what type of bag and configuration you have it might work for you. I love the sheath it comes in cause I can clip it easily to my bag cause like I said before it fits semi weird cause it’s bigger than other shovels I’ve had. It’s not the sharpest but if you know how to sharpen it’s easy to bring it back. Thanks you for listening to my Ted Talk.

Perfect for beach driving in my Jeep, just in case I need it. Compact and well built. Great price for prime day or black Friday deals.

So. There I was at Ft Polk, LA. A Soldier walks up kinda shy and asks, "Uh... how do you keep from getting 'poo' on your shovel?" (yes, she really asked, and no she didn't use the word 'poo')I was quite confused initially. Upon realizing the issue, I replied, "Well, you dig the hole first -as in dig the hole, 'poo' in the hole, and then cover it up..."---I got this shovel to keep from my issued one from needing to be used (I've left it in the wrapper it came in for the day it needs returning). This is the substitute. It's somewhat lighter than the issue shovel and a hair bit smaller, but it is quite effective. I used it to dig cat-holes and hasty's -along with chopping brush and clearing small tree limbs & vines- for a full month with nothing more than mild wear on the cutting's edge paint.I left it out beside my vehicle for anyone to borrow and it saw HEAVY use for an entire month in a CAV's JRTC rotation. It dealt with all the heat, rain, humidity, & abuse my, my fellow Soldiers, myself, & Ft. Polk could throw at it. I'm definitely impressed with the lighter build while retaining the ability to take a lot of use with only minimal signs wear.
