Works as described with SWM8. Make sure you have the necessary coaxial cable to make connection to SWM multi-switch.

There are two (some would say 3) power inserters for DirecTV SWiM systems. The SWiM system that is embedded in the LNB assembly typically uses the 21volt inserter. A SWiM module that has multiple LNB input that converts it to a single wire (a square box with multiple input/output around the sides, which could be SWiM8 or SWiM16) uses the higher powered 28/29 volt inserter (the one I'm reviewing). Older versions were closer to 28volt and there the newer ones (this review) are closer to 29 volts.HOWEVER... Even though I have the system that has the SWiM module embedded in the LNB, which typically requires the 21 volt inserter, I bought this one (29 volt) because of the length of the cable run from the LNB to the inserter as well and the cable run from the SWiM splitter (SWiM8) to the Genie box out in my backyard kitchen (approx. 150 ft). I had read about this long run solution on an obscure blog about intermittent 771/775 errors but cannot find any confirmation on this from DirecTV or other DIY blogs (i.e. Satellite Guys). So far (3 months) so good.

The power supply worked well for its designed purpose, but it was about 45% over priced.

For those you are DIY individuals who happens to be DirecTV subscriber, this item is essential to convert the legacy system to SWM system. SWM allows you to set-up Whole Home DVR system and use the existing single RG6 cable to each room in your house. This product is great and also was sent promptly by the seller.Pro: works as promised.Con: minor; it needs electrical outlet but it can be installed in-house.Recommended to buyers who understands the way SWM signal system works. Note: the SWM-LNB needs 21VDC Power inserter, not this one.

We had installed a Winegard Slimline antenna for our Allegro Bus motorhome in February and it worked great for about six weeks and then it just stopped working. After having a direct TV installer look at the system he said that it was my SWM 8 module that was bad. I ordered both the SWM 8 module and decided to order the Power Inserter as well. It turns out that the SWM 8 module was fine and it was the Power Inserter that was bad. Replaced it and our system is working fine with no additional problems. Amazon was the best place to order these parts as they have the right price and since I am a Prime member the shipping was free.
