I have tried many different types of release clips for trolling and I always come back to the scotty release because it works.Pros:1. easy to use2. has an adjustable release pressure between low and high and then you can adjust to suit your needs by how far into the clip you place your line all depending on the fish you are after, the current you are in and the depth you are fishing. I usually use 11" dodger at down to 150' often in moderately strong current so I use the heavy setting with the line towards the back3. you can buy replacement pads if you need tocons:1. ok as with any release clip I have found if you run into ell grass floating around it will follow the line down and pull the clip off but that is not really a clip problemconclusion: Any one fishing with down riggers I would recommend the scotty downrigger release clip to

This is the most convenient, effective downrigger release that I've found for salmon fishing. You do have to be careful, though, not to let it hit the downrigger pulley on the way up, or it could pop off and you'll lose it to the big green toolbox.These are easy to clip onto the cable at any location - I like to run one about 5 or 10 feet above the cannonball, so that if the cannonball hit the bottom, the fishing line and terminal tackle is above that and is less likely to snag up.
