Fuel gauge on my 2012 Crownline 195 SS recently began to fluctuate all over the place. I tested the gauge by shorting out the ground on the sending unit in the tank, and the needle on the gauge went right to full, indicating that the gauge and wiring were good and that the sender in the tank was defective. I had to trim the float arm for a 9-in deep tank (did it with a Dremel cut off wheel). The asymmetrical mounting screws matched perfectly with the direction of the float arm, so I didn't have to change that. Finally, the screws that came with the sender fit the threads in my tank. I did this repair with the tank about 7/8 full, and the gauge now reads 7/8. I'll report back later on how it works reading lower fuel levels.UPDATE: Boat has a 25 gallon tank. I ran it down to 3/4 full and was able to add 6 gallons, I know it's accurate near full. Then I ran it until it was a little over 1/4 on the gauge and topped it up with 17 gallons. So it's pretty good at lower levels too. I was a little skeptical when I saw how the float is skewered on the arm, but it seems well designed and works well.

This fuel level sending unit works perfectly and the included instructions are excellent. My tank depth is 8.5” on my boat and the instructions included a chart that showed exactly the length to trim the float arm to. I trimmed the float arm with a sharp set of tin snips and placed the float as explained in the instructions. The mounting plate fit my tank perfectly; however, I’ve seen some reviews where people say it didn’t fit theirs. While that may be the case, you’ll want to make sure the mounting plate is aligned with the holes in the tank exactly, as they aren’t equally spaced. There is only one way where it’ll fit exactly and if it’s placed in a different position, the holes will be just a little bit off. My gauge now reads perfectly from F to E and the install was a breeze. For reference, my boat is a 1988 Baretta Success 200 BR with a Volvo Penta AQ260B (5.7L/350 V8 with a 4 bbl carb) and a Volvo Penta AQ290 outdrive. My tank is 30 gallons. Buy this, you won’t regret it!
