Saludos.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO GET TOOLS TO HELP YOU WITH DIE CUTTING, GET GOOD TOOLS! THIS IS AN EXCELLENT TOOL!!!I bought this mat after trying a "cheep-o" method I found on U-tube. I want to give you the benefit of my bad experience. Read on:Before I say anything about THIS product, I want you to know that I tried the "homemade" method of making one on the cheap that I learned about on a U-tube video. I bought an inexpensive ($5) magnetic vent cover which I then proceeded to line with a double layer of poster board type material (about the thickness of 2 layers of cereal box cardboard). I still needed a mylar shim to make this work. The advantage of this method is that small dies like leaves or stems can be placed ANYWHERE on this mat and they will stick. The big DISADVANTAGE of this method is that if you are like me and use your great thinlet dies all the time, it takes a terrible toll on this mat. This magnetic mat holds the impressions of your dies PERMANENTLY. Eventually it forms hills and valleys (like pot holes) on this jerry-rigged mat, which make it difficult over time to get good cuts without more shims. (Mind you, I placed my thinlets on this mat with the cutting edge UP so it wouldn't cut directly into this mat.) BOTTOM LINE: If you use this type of homemade mat with cutting side DOWN, they would totally destroy this mat in no time flat. Having used this method myself, I do not recommend you use this method!!! It's a total $$$$$ waster because you have to keep replacing it with more time and $$$$$.I was so disgusted by the wasted money and time I spent making this jerry-rigged mat, that I finally gave up and decided to give this magnetic mat a try. However, if I'm going to spend larger $$$$$, I'm going to do everything possible to make it work the best for ME! You need good contact between this magnetic mat/pad and your cutting pad. This really is critical! That means that the flatter this bottom cutting pad remains, the better this product works for you. Sizzix recommends that you place your paper on the bottom cutting pad with your thinlet cutting edge facing down. If you do this, experienced die cutters know that eventually this cutting pad will warp, thus reducing good contact with your magnetic mat. You can try using the Sizzix method to straighten/flatten your mats (I've used this method and it just doesn't seem to work very well for me and I'm an experienced die cutter. There must be a learning curve to this that I'm just not getting?!?). Or . . . you can use the oven method: set oven to 350, place cutting pad on cookie sheet or in a baking dish, place other flat bakeware on top, check in 20 minutes, then 5 minute intervals after that till your cutting pad is flat, then cool. I have used this method with good success many times with complete success, so I recommend the oven method. But . . . when using this magnetic mat it's just much simpler for me to keep the bottom cutting pad from warping in the first place! I do this by placing my thinlet dies cutting side face up on the bottom cutting pad, then I put my paper over the die, and finally the top cutting pad. Very occassionally my top cutting pad will develop static if I'm doing a lot of cutting and the static will shift the paper from my die. This can be remedied with either rubbing it with a dryer sheet, or by rubbing a small amount of hand cream into your hands and rubbing your hands over the top cutting pad (my personal favorite). Using this entire method, I RARELY have a miscut or waste paper. It's easy to do and it maintains the close contact between this magnetic mat and your cutting pad. There really is only one very minor problem with this mat. Larger dies will absolutely stay exactly where you put them. However, small dies like leaves or stems for flowers (basically really thin dies or dies about 1" or less) tend to be drawn to the actual magnets in the magnetic mat. The only reason this is troublesome is if you are trying to purposely place small or thin dies toward the edge of your bottom cutting pad so they will cut on the edges of your upper cutting pad if you are trying to keep your upper cutting pad from warping. Personally, I can live with this small little problem.BOTTOM LINE: Keeping in mind all the things I've already said (I hope it makes sense. It's 3AM and I'm drooping.), I HEARTILY RECOMMEND THIS MAGNETIC MAT! IT'S WORTH THE MONEY, AND DEFINITELY MAKES DIE CUTTING EASIER. I will include pictures of my jerry-rigged fiasco with this review within a few days. Right now -- I'm going to bed.

This is good value & a great addition to my die cutting tool kit , VERY strong magnets hold the dies firmly in place.
