'entertainment' is a killer, ground-breaking, highly influential album. fact! and as highly as i regard it, i've always thought that this is a better one - a huge, jagged, funky, rhythmic, delicious lump of a record.not well regarded on release - john peel famously called it 'solid glod' - mainly because it wasn't 'entertainment 2'. it's more of an organic, obvious next step. who wants to make the same record twice (or more)? for me, the gang of four's opening trilogy of albums are amongst the finest and most important recordings in terms of content and forceful originality!aside from saying that the opener, 'paralysed' is perhaps their finest moment, i'll leave a track by track run-through to the side and concentrate on this particular edition, which has been subject to remastering (under the supervision of jon king), and included as part of an elaborate box set covering the years 1977-1981. due to issues of space, and that i don't generally do live albums and i have all the vinyl singles, i opted to replace my original lps with the studio discs. now, these come in as being quite expensive in themselves, being american products, but the superb remastering and excellent packaging make them essential purchases. never sounded better!the disc is housed in a mini replica sleeve with enclosed 10"x10" folded poster depicting the original inner sleeve - this is my only small gripe, in that a replica inner sleeve would have been so much better, but hey ho! can't have everything!so, i'm going to 'keep it for myself'! better than entertainment? better than enjoying yourself!
