So my Scarlett 2i2's gain was maxed out whenever I was using my Sennheiser HDM27 with it, I really like Soyuz and the fact that Vlad Kreimer from Soma Lab was involved in the sound design of the Launcher sold me. Ordered the Launcher - surprisingly, 19% off with German VAT somehow deducted - used it for a couple of days … could reduce the Scarlett's gain by HALF and the built-in compressor made my voice sound better BUT: returned it after that because the Launcher also amplified the hiss of my laptop's fans noticeable. So the claim "bring the sound of the Soyuz microphones into your bedroom studio" is kinda true, but didn't take everyday situations into account that even when using a cardioid top notch headset, high pitch fan noise shouldn't be amplified.

I bought it to use with Shure SM7B and Zoom U-24 preamp to use through USB with a Mac. I tried Cloudlifter CL-1 before this one. Cloudlifter had horrible noise and some clicking. I suspected that it just doesn't work with Zoom. But, the number of good reviews and examples on YouTube convinced me to try it again. I found Soyuz as an alternative and decided to try it instead. It sounds great - no noise, excellent warm sound, quite a bit of boost. And the packaging, QC cards, case are a nice touch. One can argue that this one is more expensive. Well, in the big scheme of things, this difference is negligible. If you are looking for this kind of product, I would recommend Soyuz over CL-1. And, I like the color more :)

I hesitated buying something this expensive, but I'm glad I did. With a Shure SM7b I had a gain problem and there are a variety of phantom-powered preamps available. I have several different lifters such as a couple of fetheads and other cheaper options as I mainly work with dynamic microphones. The Launcher is profoundly different to fethead/cloudlifter devices - yes it provides gain, but it colours the signal. For speech the effect is beautiful with mics such as the SM7b and also the Rode Procaster. The quality of the Launcher is amazing and the packaging is a work of art in itself. There are nice touches like seeing who built your launcher (thanks Sergey!).The only negative is the price (£186 at the time of reviewing). But I understand I'm paying for something that is handmade to a very high standard, rather than a production-line product. I realise my issue with the price is like buying a Rolls-Royce and complaining that other cars are cheaper ;-)

This is a welcome addition for any dynamic mic to give it a clean boost. I own the Cloudlifter and this is 25% louder. However, it is not 25% louder with no hiss. BOTH gain and hiss increase by 25%, so it does come at a cost. I reduced from 3 o clock to 2 o clock on the preamp dial. The colouring is there, but it's subtle. The highs are tamed and the lower end is more smooth. It sounds like a little bit of tube gain has been added. There's a bit of a subtle, pleasing rasp.Build quality is exceptional. It's nearly twice as thick as the Cloudlifter. It heavy too, so it sits where it's put without the need of securing it with blu tack. The Cream finish and slightly embossed logo gives it a luxurious feel. The branding too is second to none. Inside the small cardboard box, you'll find a few illustrations of what it can do, a little brown envelope with 2 cards showing the faces and handwritten signatures (and dates) of the people who assembled and tested the unit, instructions and 2 stickers. What's more, the unit comes in it's own fitted, zip bag.So, the fundamental question for first timers is: Cloudlifter or Launcher? ...to which I'd answer Launcher (for the above sound quality), but at least have a half decent preamp since that's the start of the chain where hiss generally originates and of course, a good mic which is still thirsty for more power. Those with Cloudlifters: Cloudlifter or Launcher?.....to which I'd reply; Launcher, sine you can sell your Cloudlifter for around £110 and you'll score an extra bit of warmth to your sound for £75, settling your bagging curiosity. Or try them both and if it's not a sound you like, return the Launcher. As mentioned however, it's a subtle difference and you may be content to have a clean boost rather than one with color.I would consider this a welcomed alternative to a Cloudlifter.

Much like the Cloudlifter or FetHead, this device uses phantom power to increase the gain of your microphone (26db in this case). This is especially useful for quieter mics like Ribbon microphones and some Dynamic mics. Does it do well at this task? Yes, very much so. In fact, with my MXL R144, I can turn down the gain a bit more than when I use the Cloudlifter. But, this also does a little more. The Cloudlifter and other similar products try to be" transparent" and not change anything about the sound, save for the gain levels. The Launcher imparts a bit of color and warmth. It's very subtle, but it gently smooths the sound. A gentle rolling off of the high end using physical components rather than EQ settings or software. I suggest finding detailed reviews on Youtube so you can hear what it does. Listen carefully, because it is subtle. I think it makes the sound just a little more pleasing and a tad more "vintage."As for build quality, this thing is built like a tank. The outer metal shell is thicker than that of the Cloudlifter (which is built well to begin with). The unit comes with a zipper pouch for storage and travel and quality assurance cards signed by the men who built and inspected the unit, a nice touch.Should you buy it? Well, it comes down to whether or not you need the gain booting abilities AND want the subtle changes it makes to the sound. This will use phantom power and not pass it on, so any mic that needs it cannot use with without some extra power source in the chain after it. For me, I need the boost to gain and I love warmer, more vintage sounds. If you want more gain and no color, you will be very happy with the Cloudlifter.
