Had issue with low volume video files that could not be amplified enough from the limits of a computer or external stereo+subwoofer powered speaker volume settings. The AMP EQ allowed me to set the computer and speaker volume setting to 'midrange' and use the intervening eq device to boost volume range to the maximum desired and well past 'ability to tolerate'. Bonuses come from ability to dial in the specific range of eq output in the 3 band ranges. This enables one to adjust the overall audio range balances to an optimal profile for any album, track or video!The (old but still decent) Cambridge Soundworks 'cube' speakers had good highs and the subwoofer could cover solid lows, but there was a midrange 'gap' in the profile. The eq let me eliminate that entirely (by increasing the midrange output of the cubes) and dial in the ideally defined bass range. Easy to make adjustments on the fly based on whatever sounds good to you. There is an additional ''loudness' switch which enables additional boost to low response while maintaining clarity and punch. Another switch lets one cut out the 'tone' one has adjusted which gives ability to contrast with the 'pure' state.Overall, this is compact, quality sound with just the right minimal features to turn a computer driven basic external 3 piece stereo speaker set up into an experience that is quality balanced music listening and 'cinematic' video and movies. Comparatively, my small desktop system went from 5/10 to 8.5/10. In any case the potential is optimized for my moderate quality system. I'm able to use AND enjoy the desktop environment much more. Materials/fittings/build quality seems solid. Recommend.

Durch einen Testbericht in "Audio Test", einer österreichischen HiFi-Zeitschrift, wurde ich auf den "InLine AmpEQ"-Kopfhörerverstärker sowie den "woodon-Ear" (preiswerter Kopfhörer im Retro-Design) desselben Herstellers aufmerksam. Aus reiner Neugier (und weil mich der Retro-Charme sowohl des Kopfhörers als auch des Amps fasziniert) habe ich mir beide Geräte mal kommen lassen. Hilfreich für die Entscheidung war, dass gerade je ein Exemplar als Amazon Warehouse Deal (rund 44 Euro für den KH und 114 Euro für den KHV) verfügbar war. Für nicht einmal 160 Euro erwarb ich also ein Paket aus KHV und KH, das Amazon-typisch schon am nächsten Tag geliefert wurde.Die spannende Frage: Was kann nun ein Gespann aus KH und KHV für ein so kleines Budget leisten? Schließlich kann man sowohl für einen KH als auch für einen KHV jeweils deutlich höhere dreistellige oder gar vierstellige Summen ausgeben.Kurz zu meinem Hintergrund: Ich habe mich schon vor Jahren fast ausschließlich auf Kopfhörer verlegt und besitze aktuell Spitzen-Kopfhörer wie Beyerdynamic T1 (1. Gen.), T5p (1. Gen.), T90, DT-990 und DT-880 Edition 2005 (alle kabelgebunden) sowie AKG K845BT und B&O H7 (Kabel/Bluetooth). Sennheiser (HD650, HD800) und Ultrasone (Signature Pro) sind mir auch nicht unbekannt, entsprechen aber nicht 100%ig meinem Geschmack. Per Kabel höre ich im Regelfall an hochwertigen Kopfhörerverstärkern (z.B. Lehmann Audio Black Cube Linear) und Zuspielern (Marantz SACD-Player, PC-Soundkarte M2Tech HiFace + Musical Fidelity VDAC) bzw. an hochwertigen Mobil-Playern (Astell & Kern AK100).Dies nur vorweg, nicht um zu "protzen" (das liegt mir fern), sondern damit ihr wisst, "woher ich komme" und welche Kaliber ich hier zum Vergleich auffahre.Zum woodon-Ear habe ich eine separate Rezension verfasst und konzentriere mich hier auf den AmpEQ.Ich habe mich bewusst für die Version ohne integrierten Akku entschieden. Einerseits, weil ich so wenig Geld wie möglich ausgeben wollte, da bin ich ehrlich. Andererseits aber auch, weil der AmpEQ nach meiner Ansicht zwar transportabel, aber nicht wirklich mobil (also z.B. in der U-Bahn) verwendbar ist, sondern eher für stationären Gebrauch (z.B. im Büro, Hotel, etc.) gedacht ist. Bei diesen Gelegenheiten habe ich aber immer eine Stromquelle (und sei es "nur" eine Powerbank) in der Nähe, so dass mir der integrierte Akku verzichtbar erschien.Am Klang (in Linearstellung) und an der Verarbeitungsqualität des AmpEQ gibt es rein gar nichts zu meckern. Die Leistung am Kopfhörer-Ausgang ist nicht überbordend (hier kenne ich leistungsfähigere, aber auch teurere mobile KHVs), aber völlig ausreichend, um auch mittelprächtig leistungshungrige Kopfhörer wie z.B. den T90 souverän anzutreiben. Mit dem T1 habe ich es noch nicht versucht, könnte mir aber vorstellen, dass die 600 Ohm (trotz Tesla) dem AmpEQ etwas zu schaffen machen. Ich werde es demnächst mal ausprobieren und die Rezension updaten.Bis hierher unterscheidet sich der AmpEQ nahezu gar nicht von anderen hochwertigen KHVs. Die Differenzierung kommt dann erst mit seiner "Sonderausstattung", dem analogen Equalizer. Und der ist ein echtes Highlight! Wer bisher nur die elektronischen, ggf. parametrierbaren Equalizer aus Handy-Apps oder anderen Geräten kennt, sollte unbedingt mal einen analogen Equalizer zum Vergleich hören. Den elektronischen Equalizer in meinem iRiver Astell & Kern AK100 (durchaus ein hochwertiger mobiler Player) verwende ich nie, sondern nehme statt dessen hochwertige Kopfhörer wie T5p oder T90, die sowieso ohne jegliche Klangmodifikation am besten klingen.Klar, die Flexibität ist mit der elektronischen Variante (gerade wenn sie parametrierbar ist) größer, so dass ich damit (theoretisch) auch größere klangliche "Dellen" ausgleichen kann. Aber die Klangqualität ist beim analogen Equalizer erheblich besser. Obwohl der Equalizer im AmpEQ ziemlich breitbandig agiert, bleibt die hochwertige Wiedergabequalität erhalten. Nichts wird künstlich eingedickt oder überspitzt (es sei denn, man übertreibt es).Spätestens beim Thema "Equalizer" wenden sich puristische "Linearhörer" zwar angeekelt ab, da sie normalerweise alle klangverändernden Mechanismen verteufeln und den "reinen" Klang, wie er vom Musiker beabsichtigt wurde, bevorzugen, aber ganz so päpstlich muss man das IMHO nicht sehen. Der lineare Frequenzgang kommt eben längst nicht an Jedermanns Ohr an. Ursachen sind anatomischer Natur (das ist inzwischen sogar wissenschaftlich untersucht und bewiesen worden - jeder hört etwas anders) oder vorhandene Gehörschäden, und oft ist auch die Musik selbst daran schuld (man denke nur an viele Aufnahmen aus den 80ern, die einfach nur flach und sehr bassarm daherkommen; das haben die Musiker bestimmt nicht beabsichtigt, sondern da waren die Toningenieure einfach nur unfähig). Dagegen etwas zu tun, d.h. mit einem hochwertigen analogen Equalizer feinsinnig gegenzusteuern, halte ich für absolut legitim und nicht für einen "Verrat" an der Musik. Hinzu kommt, dass nicht jeder sich sündhaft teures HiFi-Equipment leisten kann oder will, und günstigere Kopfhörer haben nun mal in aller Regel mehr oder minder klangliche Mängel.An dieser Stelle möchte ich noch einmal auf den woodon-Ear zurückkommen. Für 80 Euro ist dies wirklich ein hervorragender Kopfhörer (sowohl hinsichtlich der Klangqualität als auch bezüglich Design und Verarbeitungsqualität), aber er leidet - zumindest für meinen persönlichen Geschmack - an einer leichten Höhenschwäche. Im Zusammenspiel mit dem AmpEQ wirkt jedoch eine leichte Anhebung der Höhen beinahe Wunder: Der leichte Schleier, mit dem die Musik bis dahin belegt zu sein scheint, verschwindet, und sehr klar reproduziert der woodon-Ear nun meine Musik mit einer solchen Verve, dass ich ihn so schnell gar nicht mehr abnehmen möchte. AmpEQ und woodon-Ear bilden also eine nahezu ideale Kombination, genügen allemal den Ansprüchen von HiFi-Einsteigern (ich würde sogar sagen, auch den Ansprüchen von Fortgeschrittenen) und sind in der Kombi mit rund 200 Euro derartig günstig, dass man es kaum glauben mag.Fazit: Die deutsche Firma InLine hat mit dem AmpEQ einen nicht wirklich mobil verwendbaren, aber transportablen und hochwertigen Kopfhörerverstärker im charmanten Retro-Design gebaut. Sein Alleinstellungsmerkmal "analoger Equalizer" ist ein echtes Highlight. Auch angesichts seines mehr als fairen Preises kann ich den AmpEQ (nicht nur) für HiFi-Einsteiger oder kleine Budgets wärmstens empfehlen. Wer noch keinen passenden Kopfhörer hat, dem kann ich den woodon-Ear nur ans Herz legen. Er ist ebenfalls preiswert, hochwertig und läuft gerade in Kombination mit dem AmpEQ zur Höchstleistung auf. Für derzeit rund 200 Euro Neupreis hält man dann ein Paket aus KH und KHV in den Händen, das einen veritablen Einstieg in die ernsthafte HiFi-Liga darstellt.
