I have several indicators, but this is the one I seem to use. Size, ease of use, reliability and accuracy, are,I think, the reasons this is the first indicator I reach for. It is a little more expensive, but I have some Starrett tools I've used for 30+ years. A reliable product, it just does what it's supposed to do.

This has to be one of the most useful indicators ever made. It's amazingly small and versatile. If you think you need one of these, you will not go wrong here, and it will probably become something you use all the time. It can be adjusted to indicate in all sorts of directions, and the lever action can also be toggled. It's an incredible little object of engineering. Beyond impressed.

I'm sure the above statement will bring the trolls, but that is my opinion.If you're a machinist already, you probably have at least 5 of these already and why are you reading this? You know what you like and what works for you.For those new to machining: yes, it is expensive but if this is what you earn money with, it's worth the investment. If you're a hobbyist, then you will most likely not need something this accurate. Well taken care of, these things will last longer than you.It shipped pretty quickly, and arrived in fine shape.

This is a great indicator for small-scale machining. It comes with a full range of attachments that allow you to mount it in the mill spindle and tool posts of micro lathes and mills such as the Taig. It's very easy to square up your work, sweep the maill table to ensure the mill column is perpendicular, and any number of other alignment tasks.
