Butter is softer

I love that my butter can stay fresh and doesn’t need to be refrigerated. It’s perfect and always ready to spread at all times. It’s best for my morning toast or when cooking. It’s such a plus that it looks beautiful on the counter.

I love having my butter soft enough to spread. We do go through a stick quickly. This is supposed to work with water in the bottom to keep it bacteria safe, but I found that the butter does not always stay in the top. Therefore, I eliminated the water and turned the whole thing over. Serves us just right. Not the easiest to clean unless you just dunk it in hot dishwater or dishwasher, which is what I do.

I love this butter dish and wish I new about it decades ago. I have been using mine for about a year now. Just bring a stick of butter to room temperature and press it firmly into the top part, add some water to the bottom and voila spreadable butter for as long as it lasts. Butter goes pretty quickly at my house but a stick has lasted 10 days on my counter without going bad. Just remember to change the water every day or so. Usually i just keep on adding butter when it gets low but sometimes a little mold starts showing on the dish when we haven't been mindful of changing the water. It cleans up beautifully in the dishwasher though. I really like that the top part is stable when setting it upright to access the butter.

UPDATE: Mold. The butter started molding after just one night out on the counter. I threw away the butter, put the holder though the dishwasher with a sanitizing rinse, and put an new stick of butter in. Two days later, mold. Ick. I did that three times, using butter from different boxes to be sure it wasn't a problem with the butter. I love the concept, but can't keep throwing away butter after just a day or two. I never use it now.I love that it's shaped for a single stick of butter. Be sure to get your butter out of the fridge and let it warm up a bit before trying to put it in the dish. I've only had it two days, but so far, I love it. I really like being able to use real butter, not butter mixed with other oils to make it soft, on my toast. It's also handy for corn on the cob! The handle is large and easy for arthritic hands to grab, and the outer crock has a mark on it to show you how much water to put in it. If for some reason my opinion changes after some use, I'll update here, but so far, so good!
