This replacement handle I received had perfect grain orientation straight up and down the handle, mine came with heartwood which I really like. I also like the fact that it has enough wood on the bottom so you can remove material to form any type of fawns foot or whatever you prefer. If you just need a replacement handle this one would work fine, i didn’t have to shave much since it came almost perfect for the eye of my hatchet head, but if yours has a bigger eye this might not work for you. Only complaint would be that the curf cut was off center but other than that I really liked it and after i oiled it man!! It looks great!!! 👍

The part that goes in the head is only 1 1/2" x 3/8". I do not think there is enough wood to be strong enough. The cut through is also off center making the one side too thin for me to have any faith that it won't break. It's going back.

It looks well made and feels very sturdy but unfortunately the top of the handle cracked off slightly when I was attaching the hatchet head. This was due to the wedge slot not being symmetrical but was easily sanded back to proper shape and fit a wedge nicely. Overall I think this is a good product for the price and hopefully wont break once it's used. I will update after some testing is done.Update, still going strong. It's held up with everything I've thrown at it.

Took a chance with an online purchase of something I would have preferred to inspect prior to buying.Lucked out.Excellent grain orientation.1/3 of the stock was darker heart wood, but won't affect a camp axe.I sanded off the varnish and finished with hemp oil.Nice piece and the price was right.
