The Taylor Pro Precision Kitchen Scales are anything but your average "kitchen scales"; in fact I would never describe them as such - they are pocket scales for weighing small quantities with accuracy. The advertising claims an accuracy of 0.01g/0.005oz, which on the face of it seems a bit of a claim for a set of scales priced at under twenty quid (currently £17.95) but I have to report that they really are exceptionally accurate. It is genuinely pocket size and the cover doubles as a tray to place whatever one is weighing. It's powered by a pair of AAA batteries and there are just the two buttons, the on/off and Tare, it will display either ounces or grams to three decimal places. It seems well made, the description on the Amazon page claim it is made of stainless steel but that is clearly not the case - only the weighing plate is metal, the case and the lid are entirely made of plastic.the cover/tray is plastic and just clips on. The plastic is not an issue for me, but the clip-on lid has just a small recess at one end to lift it off, but the design means that pressure at the one point actually makes the retaining clips around the edge of the lid grip even tighter, so it's very difficult to unclip the cover, and in fact I nearly pulled the scales apart the first time I tried to take off the cover, as can be seen in one of the accompanying images. Then I broke my thumbnail trying to remove the cover.Eventually I had to abrade away some of the material from the plastic retaining clips - which was very hard as they are very small to begin with - just so I could remove the lid easily and without forcing the whole thing apart at the seams whenever I want to use it.That problem aside though, I have to say this is an excellent set of gram scales, simple to operate, clear and accurate readings and eminently portable.Had it actually been Stainless Steel as claimed rather than plastic it would have been absolutely perfect, as the plastic case and particularly the cover has been problematic - but perhaps that's what it took to get the price down so low, and if so I guess I can live with that.

These scales are absolutely brilliant! I was amazed at their accuracy too but I get ahead of myself….To start with I couldn’t open them, the lid is impossible to remove, I broke 2 nails trying and wasn’t impressed! In the end I levered a (metal) nail file under the little gap for opening and eventually it popped off! Ok now for it’s use. When I saw this I thought it would be perfect for weighing my knitting wool. I rewind my wool into centre pull cakes using a special yarn winder but I can never get the ball divided equally….enter the scales. Now I can weigh as I wind and check they will be equal and bingo, it worked!!! I started by weighing the main 100g ball then as I would it weighed the part ball left until it was 50g and when I removed the wound cake (that’s what a ball of wool is called when using a yarn winder just in case you thought I meant an actual cake) and that was 49.07g (close enough).I have used this several times now and each time I can get the ball divided almost exactly the same weight! The scales are very sensitive though, at first I put them on my bed while I wound the yarn and they were changing all the time no matter how still I sat. Use them on a table that’s what worked best for me.The scales lid can be used as the tray to weigh things on and they can be zeroed to add more to them like a normal scale just press the on off button, then leave them alone for a few seconds and they turn off on their own.The lid though…ugh!! It is welded on once placed back on again and needs levering off each time and I was spoiling the gold pain so I came up with a solution (see photos) a piece of plastic backing to double sided tape sellotaped to the battery lid underneath. Works a treat! What I would change…make them metal and not plastic as it makes them look cheap, do something about that lid. Ok it needs to stay on in a bag and for travelling so put some kind of a tab on it to help remove it without us girlies breaking our nails each time. Lastly rechargeable would be better than having to buy batteries for them.Even though I really like that’s scales I have marked them down for the lid and plastic outer
