This is my first gaiwan, and I'm quite happy with my purchase. It's surprisingly durable too. I once accidentally dropped it on the floor once from my standing height, and it didn't even chip.My only complaint is that it is not very well-insulated. If enough hot water is left in for long enough, there won't be any part of the bowl that isn't hot to the touch. I still haven't burned myself, but I'll definitely need to either get some calloused fingers or learn the pouring technique a bit better if I'm going to maintain that streak.

This is a very nice, reasonably-priced gaiwan made of strong, heat-resistant borosilicate glass. It is light, and the parts fit well together. What makes this gaiwan unique is that the cup sits inside (not on) the saucer. And of course, you can watch the tea brew.

Pro: Its clear so you can see the while it is brewing.Something that surprised me is that the saucer is open on the bottom. Makes more of a mess that way.The glass seems to heat up faster than ceramic.Size is as expected; brews a very small cup of tea at a time.
