According to the WTB video an i23 wheel should use 23mm + 5mm = 28mm tape. That couldn't be further from the truth. I spent an evening struggling with mounting, plugging leaks, remounting,... a set brand new tires. The tape is too wide, too thick and not sticky enough to hold itself down to the rim strip. Edges of the tape kept getting stuck between the tire bead and the rim grove and cause leaks. Eventually, I gave up and use a 25mm tape from the M* O* brand. The tires immediately seat perfectly and held air overnight without any issues. Maybe I'll try the 26mm next time or maybe not.

Barely any adhesive on the back, doesn't even come close to sticking to the rim and has zero flex. Everything you don't want in a rim tape, what a waste of time and money.

I’ve been using DT Swiss tubeless tape for a while and really liked it for its ease of use. I’ve recently switched to Vittoria sealant and the first time I changed a tire it looked like the tape was dissolving into the sealant. All the white printed letters were coming off as well as the black top layer of tape. Turns out the small particles that are added to the sealant to help it seal larger holes was too abrasive for that style of tubeless tape, Silca posted a useful video explaining this problem. The WTP tape is a much more durable material and will not break down from abrasive additives.Installing this tape is tricky due to the lack of stretch, you can really pull hard on it without breaking it but it’s easy to leave air bubbles under it when doing two wraps on the rim bed. The adhesive is excellent though and the air retention is phenomenal, this stuff is also very well priced so it is well worth the extra effort to install.

Tubeless tape was exactly what I expected and worked very well for my needs.

I've used Gorilla Tape successfully in the past, although it does leave a residue on the rim that can be a pain to remove 100%. I tried that the first time around with my gravel wheels but didn't get the width quite right, which makes all the difference in how the wheel holds pressure. Rather than redoing the Gorilla Tape, I decided to try purpose-made tubeless rim tape. WTB suggests buying tape that is 5mm wider than the internal width of the rim and that's what I did. The tape is good quality and went on easily, seating into the center channel and reaching both rim walls. The rest of the setup was simple and the wheels have been holding pressure normally. I don't think there is anything special about this tape specifically but it does the job well.
