Concise well researched entertaining introduction to Handel with pretty comprehensive guide to all his major works including recommended recordings.

The other reviewer summarized the value of this book just about perfectly. A couple additional features I like: Handel's operas are listed and reviewed in chronological order, which is very helpful for understanding the context and evolution of his composition style. Also, the author makes use of extensive commentary from Handel's contemporaries, which gives you an extraordinary feel for how Handel was regarded in his day. Very interesting read from beginning to end.

Perfect as an introduction to this great composer's work. Well structured, with lots of useful detail, for music lovers or students.

I found this book most useful and very easy to read, and I refer to it again and again. If you are interested in Handel try this book

Wonderful book. Short essays on Handel's life and music, a year-by-year biography, informative and exciting notes on his major compositions (with discography), all done with verve and style. The author refers to internet sites wherever available, making it possible to see in situ the statue or painting of Handel he is discussing. An extraordinarily fine short biography of one of the greatest composers of Western music. BUY IT.
