My husband likes the comfort of Thoro socks. It is the only brand that he wears and they don’t wear out.

I have purchased several pairs of this sock in various colors (same review on each color). It is perfect for me because it has a medium amount of padding and supportive elasticized bands around the mid foot. I have atrophy of the fat pad along the bottom of my foot and walking was becoming painful. First, I followed the advice of podiatry websites and tried to add more cushioned shoes and socks. The more padding I added the worse it got! The location of my pain is not directly in the heel but on the outside bony edge of the foot - but I've learned that pain location does not always indicate the source of the problem. When I got rid of my orthotics that worked for years (maybe they caused the atrophy?) and started walking barefoot at home, my pain diminished. Outside, I started trying the barefoot style walking shoes against the advice of my chiropractor and podiatrists who want to sell me orthotics. My pain was less than with padded shoes but I still felt I needed some cushioning for the hard surfaces we walk on in the city.These socks do the trick for me - just enough padding and support without constricting the movement or binding my feet too strongly. I did try the same brand in tennis style for running (cushioning was in the toe and I do not run, so no good for me) and in a thicker pink and white woman's style for walking (too much cushioning in a shoe, but okay when shoeless indoors) but they did not really help me as much as this style. Now I just have to figure out winter walking!

These are my favorite athletic socks for hiking and walking of all time. The socks feel so soft, and they absorb moisture so well that you rarely get blisters. And they have just the right amount of thickness. I have looked high and low for these socks for 10+ years. REI used to sell them as one of their main hiking socks. I still have a couple of pairs that are on their last leg that are at least 10 years old. Then REI brought in thicker models of Thorlo socks that were too hot and not as comfortable or smart wool socks none of which I will wear. I am so jazzed that I have found my favorite socks again. New is not always better. And they beat smart wool hands down,which is about all you can find at REI anymore.
