I bought this as I live on a lake and was working on the shoreline and just wanted that extra bit of protection when using some power tools. At the time, I did not have a GFCI outlet close by to plug into - so used this and plugged into a standard outlet. Worked well and did trip when one of my tools fell into some wet sand.

I use these one of these on each pump in my aquaponic greenhouse to prevent one pump from tripping the GFCI for all electronics in my greenhouse. It is wonderful that the GFCI resets every time that the power is shut off because I use timers to turn pumps on and off every hour. So, if a sporadic problem trips the circuit the pump will resume normal operation the next hour and my pump will only miss one cycle.

The term "Auto Reset" that Tower Manufacturing coined has some ambiguity to it.For this device, it means that if the GFCI trips, it will remain tripped until wall power is cut then re-applied. That means until you unplug the cord from the wall and plug it in again. That's really not auto-anything, in my opinion. I mean, when my wall GFCI trips, I need to push a button to reset it. In this case, I still need to do a manual step to reset it. Nothing automatic about it... What this device does is virtually move your wall GFCI closer to your tools, so you don't need to walk to the wall to reset it. It's convenient, but hardly automatic.One (such as me) could interpret Auto Reset to mean that the GFCI AUTOMATICALLY resets itself after some delay. For the application I was going to use this for, I was hoping for this to be the case.If my definition is invalid based on rules and regulations, I accept it. The instructions on the package do in fact clearly state what Auto Reset means. Because the vendor saw the need to define it, they too felt it was open to interpretation. Amazon should have included that part of the wording to make things clear. Unfortunately, there's no way know for sure what Auto Reset means until you receive the product...
