We are 2 seniors. We tasted the water from our daughter's Berkey. It was amazing...absolutely NO taste, just pure refreshing liquid that quenches our thirst. What is this thing???I must admit, I about had a heart attack when I saw the price...but the filters last 6 years or more!! We did get the fluoride filters too, extra $100. Those need to be changed every year. We purchased the Travel Berkey because there are only 2 of us. I keep my old Brita pitcher, without the filter, in the refrigerator filled with Berkey water. I also use Berkey water for our daily coffee and my nasal rinse. Feel much safer now that I'm not using the tap water, we've had it since mid March '24.It was a hard decision between the Travel size and the next size up. It's not that much more for the bigger one. But, we are short people and the bigger one was that much taller to see inside for the water level. My daughter recommended purchasing the glass tube for the water level. I read all the reviews and the one comment that got me was if the glass breaks you have to buy a whole new accessory. You can't just purchase the glass tube. I am learning how much water we use but last night it overflowed just a touch so I know where I went wrong.I was nervous setting it up but with YouTube videos, I managed to get everything right on the first try!! I will say, it took several tanks to clear the filters at first, but we now have perfect water. My husband says he has never had such great water! We're both drinking more and we know it is 100% safe. Great feeling in this day and age! We will definitely continue using this product we love it!

I love-love-love my Travel Berkey! I have a couple of friends that have had Berkeys for years, but I had continued using Aquasana. And Aquasana did well for my family for many years; however, it did not filter fluoride and that was a concern for me. So, I decided to get the Berkey. The Travel Berkey is the perfect size for my two teen daughters and me. We use it out of the container all during the day. I refill it when needed. At night I finish emptying it into a jug and go ahead and refill it so we will have water ready for the next morning. Also, it is amazing that the Berkey is actually a water "purifier," not just a water filter. The water does taste truly wonderful. One warning here: Make sure you put the spout back into the off position before leaving the room!! I had emptied the Berkey and then poured more water in for the next day. Thankfully my daughter happened to go back into the kitchen and saw water running out onto the floor. I had left the spout open and did not realize it! There would have been a gallon of water sitting on the floor if she had not noticed it.The Travel Berkey was very easy to assemble. The instructions are easy to understand. It takes a little time (maybe 30 minutes), but it's not difficult at all. The assembly required is putting the knob on the lid, flushing out the filters before screwing them into the unit, and screwing the spout onto the unit. Everything is done by hand; no screwdrivers needed. My spout has not leaked even once, so hand tightening is definitely adequate.I have been learning about how important it is to keep my body in a slightly alkaline state, and so I really wanted my drinking water to be alkaline. Aquasana filtered water was less than 7.0 on the pH chart. I tested my Berkey water the other day and I am happy to say it was at 8.0. I know this will aid me as I continue with the challenge of staying alkaline. And lastly, the Travel Berkey really is small enough to fit in a suitcase. Of course, you might not get a week's worth of clothes in the suitcase with it, but it will fit. LOL! I am planning to take it with me next time I go to visit my mother out of town because she uses tap water to make coffee and tea and her tap water tastes terrible, besides all the nasty chemicals in the water. All in all, I love the Berkey and I plan to have one of these forever more. The packaging was perfect and it arrived right on time. I am a perfectly happy customer. And if you're wondering if I am paid or get any service for such a raving review, the answer is no. I just want to give a good review on a product I'm very happy with because I really do depend on reviews when I'm shopping around and I figure other people do as well.

Water has never tasted so good! I am really amazed with this filter. I used a Brita pitcher for many years, but hated that it would get so gunky all the time. When I had my second son, I decided to make the switch to glass and natural items as much as possible so I chucked the Brita pitcher. I tried the Soma water pitcher, but my husband never liked it because he said the water tasted funny. After reading more in depth about Soma I found that while their product is organic, it doesn't really filter anything. Then I found this filter. It is somewhat clunky to set up, and getting the filters in does take some dexterity. But my goodness was it worth it. I feel like I'm drinking straight from a natural spring. I live in NYC so our tap water is pretty good to begin with, but this just really clears up the taste. My toddler loves this water, and drinks much more water when it's from this filter than when we buy in a store. His toddler friends also prefer to drink this water. I find I'm drinking more water because it just tastes better. It is a bit of a cost up front, but given that the regular filters last about ten years you can use this for years without an added expense. This kit also came with the chemical filters which last about six months, and at that point I will decide if I want to continue to buy those or just stick with the regular filters. I do wish it came with a stand though; I have it at the edge of my counter so that I can put a glass underneath it but now my toddler can reach and he loves to press down on the handle and see the water flow to the floor. I have found that the water does filter fairly rapidly, though I always make sure to fill it up at night so that it's fully filtered by morning. There's four of us using this during the day and it lasts for us, thought sometimes I do have to fill it in the late afternoon. I wish I had known about this filter sooner, it's the best I've every tasted.

Warning! First, let me say, I love the water. BUT, no manufacturing process is perfect, and I got a lemon the first time. I noticed rust on the inside of the BOTTOM chamber (so it had no chance of being filtered out). I took photos just in case, then cleaned all the insides thoroughly before assembling, so I thought it would be okay.NO SUCH LUCK. But first, when I flushed out the filters, I had a problem with a flouride one. They are filled with white grains, and there is a little netting to hold the stuff in. You should expect some grains to come out at first, but on one, it seemed the netting was missing or faulty. I called the number in the box, and they said they would send a new pair (they only come in pairs). I wanted to try the water immediately, so I plugged up that side and filtered my first tank.It tasted of RUST. So I emptied it and scrubbed and tried again -- same problem. TIP: before you assemble, carefully check the inside for any rust. You might even let a little water stand in the bottom overnight and taste the water. Once rust is started, you cannot stop it by cleaning! So TAKE A PHOTO BEFORE CLEANING IT AND SEND IT BACK!. I called again and sent them photos -- they immediately sent a new bottom and a pair of flouride filters, and emailed a return shipping label. It works great and the water is amazing.Another note, they say you can hand-tighten the spigot. I have the travel-size, so the curvature is greater than on the larger sizes. I don't know whose hands they think are that strong, but mine are not! I had to use pliers (carefully) and keep testing until no water dribbled out. I gave it a 1/8 of a turn each time, and it took 4 times before the water stopped dribbling - test OVERNIGHT - the last leak was very slow. Do not turn the spigot, it is not that strong -- turn the inside nut.In spite of my "lemon" experience, I love the product. And the customer service # was answered on Sunday! And I received the new parts on Thursday!

Love it. No plastic, no fluoride, no problems.A few people have asked me which water filter/purification system I chose (after months of research). I went with the Berkey (Travel Berkey for me--one human and two dogs) for a number of reasons. For one thing, both parts--the filtration half and the collection half--are stainless steel. No plastic. It's only seven inches in diameter, which means a very small footprint. I have a small kitchen with limited counter space, but I can spare seven inches. It's the only system I found that filters out both arsenic and fluoride. It filters 1.5 gallons at a time, and it only takes a couple of hours to do that.It filters not only tap water, but any water, even pool or pond water--small enough to take camping, too. (The top half fits into the bottom half.)The black filters last for seven years; the fluoride filters last for one year--that means that each gallon of filtered water will cost under five cents. No electricity or plumbing needed. Just pour the unfiltered water into the top filtration half. Gravity does the rest. If (I should probably say "when") there's an earthquake here in California, I will be able to filter the 38,000 gallons of pool water nearby as necessary.Last but certainly not least, the filtered water tastes like mountain spring water. The Berkey filters out all of the pathogens and chemicals but leaves the minerals. I am very happy with this system.Highly, highly recommended.
