I’d say this is on the softer side rather than stiffer. Great amount for the price though and has held up well on fabric that isn’t super heavy.

I'm using this on the sleeves of a handknit sweater, my own design. I wanted sleeves with a gentle ruffle to the elbow. The yarn (which is one of the fluffiest worsteds I've ever worked with) has a lot of drape, so of course the extra fabric for the ruffles mostly ended up in my armpit. Other stiffeners I tried made the sleeve stick out like an open umbrella. This soft horsehair braid has just enough support to open up the ruffles without making it stiff. I think it would also work well with a lace weight yarn.The long edge of the braid has a subtle selvage so it won't ravel. The cut end across is little XXXX's, because the braid itself is a diamond trellis weave. I mention this for those who, like me, haven't used horsehair braid before. The braid is polyester, and so is the yarn I used for the sweater, so they're compatible when I launder it.I'm very happy with this braid and there's so much of it that I'm looking forward to finding other uses for it. Recommended!

Fantastic value for the amt of horsehair trim you receive in this deal. Perfect for using while sewing, I used it for making a satin bow for an outfit. It gives stability, bendability & versatility in creating sewing projects.Highly recommend!
