The genuine natural white goatskin head is attached with tacks, giving the drum the traditional look and feel and has a dark green painted laminated wood rim.

Given the very low price, I was reluctant to order this instrument. I was hoping for something at least serviceable enough to get me started. I was pleasantly surprised.The instrument I received is very well made. I could not ask for more in an instrument costing two or three times the price. Of particular note is the drum head itself which is practically flawless. I saw other product reviews where the skin used for the head was rough and erratic. Not so here.It is sturdy and has a fantastic sound. I am truly amazed and pleased.

A very nice quality beginner to student bodhran. It looks great and actually sounds quite nice.

Well made for a beginner's instrument. Deep tone and big enough but not heavy.

Very beautiful drum great deep sound I’ll be doing some amazing journey work with this baby. The first drum came defective but super easy return and the new drum cane in 2 days perfect condition I recommend getting mink oil to treat it

The Trinity College Bodhran delivered, is different than the one illustrated with regards to its bracing. It was not X braced, but T braced. I ordered in the morning and received it in the evening (elapsed time order to delivery 10.5 hours.) Wow. Amazon came through with flying colors.This really a nice sounding Bodhran out of the box and the workmanship is quite good. I went for the green one. It's beautiful. The tipper is light and fast. For a $50.00 Bodhran this is a bargain. (I have a tipper that cost me more than this!) I am very pleased with this purchase. For the price range, 5 Stars!Update: I bought this a year ago and still play it all the time. I use a number of different tippers and also play this by hand as I would a frame drum. I have a couple of other bodhrans which are tuneable, but I tend to favor this one. For me, the 18" (actual 17 3/4") is a perfect size. I originally taped it, but removed the tape months ago. I love its range just the way it is. I don't pretend to be anything resembling an expert bodhran player, but as a longtime musician, I have come to really like this bodhran. It's a great instrument.
