While this does work for top down shooting I found it very difficult to secure it into position. First when I tried to secure it to my desk on my first attempt I broke the plastic knob, fortunately I was able to replace it with an aluminum knob I had sitting around. I'm using a Sony A7 camera with a medium zoom and this thing creeps so much. I find myself tightening the joints to the point where I get worried I might break them. While I like the weight, and the overall construction feels solid some of the plastic parts does not inspire confidence. The best part is the self leveling ball-head.

A bit disappointed in this one. I am typically a fan of Ulanzi products, so figured this would be a good purchase. Unfortunately it has been a let down...Things I like:- convenience of having an adjustable arm for over-head shots- light weight- desk mounting option- doesn't take up a lot of spaceThings that are disappointing:- not quite sturdy enough to handle camera of any real weight - yes, you can lock it down into place, but any slight bump and your camera moves around which really affects the recording- the desk mount is okay, but you see a lot of motion on the camera if you bump the desk (so I have this mounted on a stand instead - which kind of defeats the purpose really)- the ball mount needed to be tightened quite a bit to hold up my Sony A7- where the arm meets the mount (desk or stand) is not super solid - so another spot where shake/motion can be introduced into your video- the included quick release plate is not compatible with my Ulanzi tripod - but the plate from my tripod does work in this arm???I have some complaints on this in general. I will likely be sending it back because it just doesn't offer rock solid steady results for recordings. At this price point, I was expecting much more. This makes sense for those setups that use lighter weight cameras than I am using.

This overhead camera mount is exactly what I’ve been looking for. The tension is perfect, easy to mount, and it’s really sturdy! Great product and a must have for easy overhead shots!

So here's the thing: I've been a professional photographer for nearly 20 years and photographing in general for much longer than that. Tripods and mounting plates are no stranger to me. I've used many different brands over the years.I cannot for the life of me get the mounting plate to connect to the ball head. I tried for about 15 minutes before giving up. Either I received a defective unit, or this is just a monumentally bad design. Honestly, it just feels like a strong leaning toward bad design. The instructions, what little of them there are, provide no help. On every single WORKING mounting plate, you just insert the plate opposite the locking side, push the plate in, and the lock snaps to secure the plate. That doesn't work here. Even when I can get it seated into the housing, I cannot get it to lock no matter what I try. It should be a simple "click" into place, but it just jams. The only way I can get the plate to press down the locking lever and pop out the lock button is if the opposite end isn't inserted, which defeats the purpose. However, I don't need to attach a camera to know that this arm won't hold anything heavier than a phone. The cheap plastic knobs can't be tightened enough to make the arm secure. Just light pressure from one finger causes the arm to move from whatever position it's supposed to be locked in.Unfortunately, the Vine program won't allow returns, otherwise I'd be immediately sending this unit back. This is a completely disappointing product on every level. Save your money and go with something else.

This is a great overhead mount. I used it to replace my kludgey system and I cam really put my camera anywhere I want and get closeups too. My camera stays put too. Once it's locked it's locked. It's sturdy enough for a DSLR or my tablet! It fit onto my craft table easily and is TIGHT. It's not moving anywhere. This mount system is competitively priced for how functional it is.
