II am not much for rechargeable marine devices as they just add one more step to lidpfe, BUT..this is a little jewel . Very intuitive. Its floats. It’s water resistant. You can hear it very well it has prepogrammable scan and people hear me. Would definitely buy again.

This is my go-to radio for communications on the ocean. I have frequent trips where I need to speak with captains and this radio has a BIG bright screen, grabs frequencies well and FLOATS if I drop it. I've purchased a few and keep coming back to this lovely workhorse!

I actually have both a 155 and 275, but I'd recommend anyone go ahead and get the 275. I really don't see what the purpose of the 155 is except to save a few bucks. It's not that much smaller than the 275 and it has a shorter range. The 275 is great. The battery will last a few days if you're not transmitting and just monitoring Ch 16. Unfortunately mine didn't come with a DC charging cable so I can only charge it on 120 volts AC at home. I think you can get a DC charging cable for it, but even though it's advertised as coming with a DC charging cable, at least mine did not.The range on the 275 is great. The longest I have transmitted is about 50 miles to the CG station when fishing offshore when I lost power in an emergency--obviously this was only possible because the CG has some high elevation towers, but the transmission strength with the "Boost" transmission function is more than adequate for long distance. For normal, boat-to-boat communications, given the curvature of the earth, the range is more like 5-10 miles or so.

I received my order just in time to take it with me on an ocean kayaking trip. Before heading out, I wanted to get acquainted with it. Needless to say, after reading the manual, inserting batteries (more on batteries in a sec), and stepping through the channels, I was ready to go. Literally, it is that easy. Just read the guide, it will step you through the way. What I like is that this radio offers a triple weather alert. Meaning it's monitoring multiple channels every 2 seconds. I realize that is more for boats/vessels, but I feel safer knowing it is available to me. I also like the big clip that you snap on the back. I tried it on my PFD (*before heading to the water), it fits perfectly by clipping on with no problems. One thing to be mindful of. DONT USE THE BATTERIES THAT COME WITH IT! Through the setup and learning process, which requires you to turn the radio on and off for a few settings, depleted the batteries to halfway. This could be a danger if you're out on the water and have an emergency and need to make multiple calls for assistance. So, I switched out the crappy batteries and inserted my own. I played with it for like 20 min just to see if maybe my unit was faulty etc., or if it was the batteries. Sure enough, after all my turning it on and off, changing backlit color (which is super cool btw), the batteries I inserted did not drain the battery. So my radio is fine, it was just the batteries that come with it are terrible. So take them out, replace them with new batteries, and go enjoy your day on the water. Trust me, you will feel much safer having this awesome radio with you. Cheers.
