I wanted to replace some burnt out headlights on some N-scale locomotives and tried these LEDs. They are just way too bright! If you need a tiny high intensity flashlight, go for it, but for any application in models, or even as indicator lights on front panels for DIY electronics, like a home-brewed amplifier, these are simply just blinding the heck out of anyone's eyeballs! Cutting out the built resistor is impractical, because it is to close to the LED's body, so I had to add an extra resistor to tame the brightness, but then it was not possible to fit the whole thing in the little locomotive's nose. I dug out an old "rice grain" lightbulb and used it and it it looks much better, even though it is not as steady as an appropriately bright LED. I would like some lower intensity LEDs, but they are hard to find nowadays!
