I do home improvement and construction for a living and I’ve always used my grandpas old plump hammer (It’s from when plumb hammers were made right! I wish plump would go back to good USA made hammers but anyway) This is great hammer, I used it today and really put though the ringer. Nice head and nice handle. I’m still partial to my grandpa’s old plump but due to the sentimental value of it I’m gonna put it up and only use it at home. I respect that Vaughn makes their product in the USA and I expect this hammer to last me a long time. The bottom line: I’m an old school plumb hammer kind of guy but I really like this hammer and she’s no lightweight, it’s a professional hammer

Good weight and length of hammer but the handle seems rather poor. The grain orientation isn't that good and the where the wdges are in the head, filler appears to have been used to fill gaps in wood - pictures. Time will tell if the handle lasts.

I first bought the Vaughn 999 sight unseen from a vendor that specialized in American made tools and never looked back.A great hammer. Period. I just bought two new ones with 16 inch hickory handles to replace the 14 inch model 999 that my "Wall be gone" son broke whilst helping on our family home remodel job.The hammer is not to blame, the young man is the Incredible Hulk in disguise.I always buy wood handled hammers because the wood handle will "speak" to you in ways that the fiberglass or other materials will not.The Vaughn 999 is no exception. It is perfect in your (my) hand.

This is a great hammer. It has fantastic balance and good feel with little vibration. I have one in the smooth face and one in the waffle/milled face. It is made in the USA and is durable. I only use it for building stuff though, never for demolition work. Estwing solid steel hammers are more durable for that. They are not nearly as comfortable for all day hammering work though. The hickory is nice for sliding into a hammer loop and doesn't slip when I'm sweaty. I stripped the varnish off of mine and tung oiled it. This still lets it absorb sweat to prevent it from getting slippery.
