I have 2 micro computers. and sometimes run both at once. One I use as a desktop, and the other for a giant photoframe.Even at high speed the noise level is acceptable. I have the micros on top, and the drives fit underneath well with the supplied standoffs, so everything is nice and cool.

This is a solid USB powered cooling unit. Using it under my router currently. Definitely worth the price, hella value.

These fans were just what I need to inject air into my computer rack. What I like about these fans is that they are powered by USB which can be power by the same computer that is being cooled. I also like that they come with a speed controller letting more air be moved as needed. Highly recommended.

If you don't have these platform fans under your modem, router, switch, and external drives, you're just asking them to fail. Recent studies have concluded that 41% of external devices fail because of overheating. The manufacturers want to make the external device enclosures as small as possible and limit their cooling features to save money and further plan for obsolescence/failure so you buy the next generation they offer. It is a simple matter to use these fans. Just put them on a firm base and mount the device on top of them. Most have speed controllers, so have them run at a slow speed. This is enough to add cooling air, enveloping the device and lowering the temperature. While it won't change how they operate, it will increase the lifespan.
