Let me be clear, until I purchased this, I had no idea about worms. This is very easy to put together and use. It is a sturdy unit and works well for me.The instructions, which are easy to follow, are written in a way that shows they were trying to make things simple, but over did it and makes them confusing, and a few things were not addressed (like the coir mat for the lid). Remember the worms can't take much cold or heat, so place accordingly1. Decide on where you are going to put your container. I suggest placing it off the ground (I have a small outdoor table mine sits on) for the simple reason, it is not a very tall container and getting it up higher will make it easier to use and collect the tea.2. Put the tap in the bottom collection tray.Place the plastic gutter feet down and set the bottom tray in them. Cover with the white colander tray.3. Follow the directions for the worm bedding, (coir, pulp egg trays, cardboard, some scraps of compost...) and add to a second bin and place it on top of the white tray. Add worms (I purchased Uncle Jims Red Worms)4. Place another bin on top of this bin, to add your compost to as needed.5. Wet the coir mat and place in the lid of the container.Something I suggest is leaving the lid off for a day or two, to keep the worms down in the lower bin. This will allow the worms to settle and keep them from escaping. It is amazing how fast they will go through the food and start spreading out to the other bins, so keep an eye on them. If they are trying to escape, make sure they have food, and the placement conditions are not too hot or cold. If all of that is good, try leaving the lid off and a light on them. It will drive them back down.

I make fun of the Vevor brand because they're everywhere but I love this worm composter, it works awesome! My worms are safe and well contained, they're thriving and making lots of castings. This is a quality worm bin, buy it!

This item is made by the same manufacturer as the vermihut for a lower price. Overall I enjoy having this worm farm and it fits easily in a variety of places in the home without any smell or mess if you set it up right. Collection is not effortless but easier than a large pile or other farm style. Many people mention that their worms are escaping. I am not sure how this is happening to them unless it wasn't set up right. Also worms will try to escape if conditions inside are not good such as too much green decomposition causing excessive heat, too wet or dry and lack of food. My worms do go into the lid, but I have never had an escapee in 6 months of ownership. Also the top holes are not really large enough for a worm to get through and they won't intentionally go away from food and moisture. The only way I can think of is if the trays are cockeyed and leaving a large gap between the levels.
