The YAMAHA WXC-50 is a fantastic addition to Acram A25 setup, offering seamless wireless streaming and excellent sound quality. Its compact design makes it easy to integrate into existing systems, and the MusicCast app provides intuitive control over streaming services. The sound is clear and dynamic, with plenty of customization options to fine-tune your listening experience. It supports a wide range of formats and connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth from my S24U, making it highly versatile. If you’re looking for a reliable and feature-rich streaming preamp, the WXC-50 is an excellent choice!

No he utilizado la funcion musicCast.

Functionality is tied to the very lacking app called MusicCast. Limited functionality of the app to other streaming services does not allow full functionality of the product. The hardware is good and functions properly but they have tied it's capable hands behind it's back.I use Tidal as a paid streaming service because it has CD quality. This unit does not support MQA nor does it pass thru some very basic features like fast forward, reverse, or artist information liner notes. All of these features are made available on the Tidal app directly and NOT THRU MUSICCAST WITH YAMAHA.!!!!ADDITIONALLY, THE STAFF AT YAMAHA CUSTOMER SERVICE IS SOME OF THE WORST SUPPORT I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. EVER!!!!THEIR COMPLETE UNABASHED LACK OF KNOWLEDGE ON THE MUSICCAST PRODUCT IS ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW.THEY WILL TELL YOU "I'M HIRED TO ANSWER PHONES, NOT HELP WITH TECHNICAL QUESTIONS"Just don't buy it. I will try to resell it or just take my pill and swallow.SONOUS, DEFINITIVE, OR OTHERS BUT NOT THIS.Update 11.14.18Now the optical interface has stopped workingThe gift that just keeps taking...

Way more dislikes than likes with this device, but it suits my needs. I have had it nearly a year, and usability has improved after multiple firmware updates, but there still seem to be a lot of things that are under-developed. And every time the firmware updates, it loses its mind, and you have to set it up all over again.Aspects of it seem really nice, while others are puzzling. For example, when you pull it out of the box, it seems solid and weighty. Then you touch the volume knob, and discover it is a crummy plastic thing with sharp edges.Specifically, I wanted a device to playback Hi-Res music over my network from a Serviio media server. The ESS Sabre DAC is nice, and supports a wide variety of CODECs, sampling rates, and bit depths. I have a set of Bose 901s and an Acurus amp that I use for music listening purposes only. I had a Parasound pre-amp, but there was not enough tone control with that device. So I wanted a preamp/DAC with streaming capability and equalization features for Media Server and AirPlay. It does these things well, with the exception of EQ (see below).I have absolutely no interest in using the WXC-50 to stream any music service - Only media on my local area network.I have a pretty serious network, and I generally insist on all devices (apart from portable devices) being plugged into Gigabit ethernet. In the case of the WXC-50, I have it placed where there is no ethernet drop, so I set it up wireless. Don't try to outsmart it - use the procedure outlined in the manual to connect to wireless. I tried to it manually, and then discovered that the radio is limited to 2.4 GHz, which is pretty lame for a 2016 device. It is 802.11n, but not 5 GHz. The manual warns that Hi-Res music streaming may stutter if the connection is not optimal. It is difficult to tell what your signal level is, because the device does not provide casual information of such. When you get the device set up, you can go to a generic 'Information' page in the MusicCast iPad app, and then a 'Diagnostics' list and see the signal strength, but this should be much easier to find. That said, wireless is working for me. My Apple Time Capsule is located in a closet on the other side of the wall from the WXC-50, so there is literally 4 feet (and a drywall wall) between the two. I'm sure that helps quite a lot.I have several other AirPlay devices. I use a Mac Mini for iTunes, and all of the AirPort Expresses play well with the WXC-50. The Mini, the Airports, my Yamaha home theater receiver (pre-MusicCast, sadly) and the WXC-50 all play utterly in sync, and all through different high quality stereos in different rooms. AirPlay works well fundamentally, but don't expect any metadata, cover art and such to work with the WXC-50. If you use it strictly as a destination, and use the Apple Remote app for iTunes, it works fine. Just don't expect to use this device to control iTunes remotely. The remote will control output level, pause, and track forward/back.I have a Windows 7 PC with all of my FLAC stuff (standard and Hi-Res) which I connect the WXC-50 to for playback via Serviio. It is apparently impossible to rewind or fast-forward, which stinks. The timeline is frequently inaccurate. Meta info works well in the 'Server' mode. I am frankly unsure as to whether the weaknesses I notice in 'Server' mode are due to the WXC-50 or Serviio, but Serviio works well on every other device I use it for. The iPad app used to display the format and bitrate of the source material, but that seems to have gone away with a firmware update. It was really handy to be able to see that displayed, so why did they do away with it?I/O is well-done. Plenty of analog and digital ins and outs and trigger support You can use this as a device (no pre-amp or EQ features, hard-set via a physical switch) to upgrade another receiver to 'MusicCast'. The idea is to have the most recent Yamaha receiver, one or two of these, and the MusicCast soundbar in sync across locations. I am tempted to get another one to connect to my older Yamaha receiver and gain MusicCast capability on my main stereo.Unfortunately, where it really falls short is in sound quality. Despite lots of EQ options, the big problem is that the speaker setup is limited to five presets. None of the five is really working well with my speaker setup. You can't set a crossover point, so your subwoofer setup is a compromise. Also, there is no subwoofer yes/no option. It sounds way better with a sub. It doesn't sound terrible, but it doesn't sound great. My Yamaha RXA-1040 home theater sounds really, really good, the way you expect Yamaha equipment to sound. So as a pre-amp, it's a bit weak. One thing for sure, though, is the Hi-Res FLAC content does sound noticeably better than CD quality. Anyone who can't hear the difference either hasn't had their equipment set up right, or just doesn't have good enough ears to discern. You can also use a web browser to access the device. The basic web interface has very dated-looking graphics. You can access an advanced web interface, which looks like it was designed in 1996, but is the only place you will find every single setting and feature available for the device.

I purchased the WXC-50 preamplifier about two weeks ago as an addition to my vintage Yamaha stereo system. I have been waiting for Yamaha to produce a unit with built-in DAC and digital streaming capability. The WXC-50 is definitely it and the $350 price is cheap considering the quality of this unit. No understand everyone, I am 53 years old and began purchasing my current Yamaha stereo back in 1978. It is all Yamaha and still going strong. I currently have the WXC-50 hooked up in 'player' mode to my C-65 preamp which is hooked to two M-65 power amplifiers, powering two NS-1000 Monitors. The music is primarily produced by a vintage YPD-71 turntable and now with the addition of the WXC-50 I have digital capability as well. I am a hardcore record collector and have well over 1000 albums in my collection. Whenever I do any critical listening it is via my turntable. But I have to say the WXC-50 when combined with Spotify's premium service is pretty damn close. I love the WXC-50 when I am working around the house because it allows me to select my music and forget it. I can also audition other music via Spotify that I may entertain purchasing in vinyl. The setup was a breeze and I was up and running less than 10 minutes after I took it out of the box. The Yamaha Musiccast application works equally well on my Galaxy phone or my notebook PC. So far I have tested all blue tooth functions and they work seamlessly. The USB port in the back only supports a thumb drive which was the only drawback in my opinion. I wish it would support an external USB drive for greater capacity. Maybe Yamaha will provide a firmware upgrade in the future to accommodate this functionality in the future. To gain the capacity I am looking for to begin archiving lossless music files, I will be building a NAS and placing it on the same network as the WXC-50 for greater flexibility. The WXC-50 is well built and really compliments my system well. The build is first rate and the all metal case is attractive. Offering many different interfaces, the WXC-50 is capable of interfacing with just about anything you want to throw at it. Once again, Yamaha has impressed me with their quality. The sound is first rate for digital playback and almost as good as listening to my turntable but not quite. For serious listening I am still dedicated to analog, but for casual, no hassle music playback, the WXC-50 is a wonderful choice!

I purchased the WXC-50 primarily to integrate my new TiVo Bolt into my audio system. I wanted the optical input, and also appreciate the streaming audio capability (e.g., Soma FM), and the ESS Sabre DAC that is included. I spent quite some time struggling with a wired ethernet setup, but I could not get that setting to persist - it would forget and not connect to the network when using wired (which Yamaha recommends for HiFi streaming audio). The WiFi connection mode has been working without fault, and will always connect to the network. I was also able to play all the hires FLAC audio on my phone without connecting via blue tooth (contrary to what the literature indicates). Although the unit has a dedicated subwoofer output, there is no crossover. I'm using the line level crossover in my subwoofer, and the hi pass output is connected to a Yamaha MX-630 power amplifier through PSB Synchrony B. I am very impressed with the resulting audio quality, the MusicCast app, and the general quality of the unit (the supplied IR remote is the weak link, very cheap). I really like that you can set 6 favorite "stations" (net radio) and recall from the push of a button. The streaming radio sound quality is very good.
