I recently picked up a 3-ton beam clamp for some heavy-duty lifting tasks in my workshop, and I have to say, it’s been a solid investment.Setting it up is straightforward. You just slide it over the beam and tighten it up with the screw mechanism. It’s definitely built for heavy use; the construction feels really robust, and you can tell it’s made to last.Once I got it secured, I was impressed with how stable it felt. I’ve used it with both a chain hoist and a lever hoist, and in both cases, it held the load steady without any slipping or shifting, even when lifting close to the max capacity. The clamp’s adjustability is a plus, allowing it to fit a variety of beam widths, which adds to its versatility. One thing to note, though, is that it’s pretty heavy, which is great for stability but can be a bit of a workout when you’re trying to install it on higher beams. Also, while the manual tightening process gives you peace of mind, it can be a bit time-consuming compared to quicker, pin-style clamps.Overall, if you need something reliable for heavy lifting tasks and you don’t mind the manual setup, this 3-ton beam clamp is a great choice. It’s a workhorse that does exactly what it’s supposed to do, and I feel confident using it for some pretty hefty loads.

As it happens, our 100+ year old home was elevated 8' above grade for flood protection and the frame is now mounted on 6" steel I-beams. It isn't every year that we get flooded but when we do, this will easily lift my outboard engine free and clear of possible flooding. It also isn't every year that I need to hoist an engine out of a vehicle, but it has happened and this is plenty strong for that, too!I like that it includes an inspection certificate for testing above the part's rated capacity. This isn't a small piece of equipment - it will be great for anything I can throw at it. The jaws open and close smoothly and are very secure on my steel. While I would use extreme caution putting much torque on it front -to-back, or any torque at all side-to-side, the ability to have a hoist point essentially where ever I could possibly want it is fantastic ... the possibilities endless. A great acquisition that will be brilliant any time it becomes useful at all!
