This is a truly great sounding pedal. I've run it through my Twin Reverb, my JCM900, and currently on a little practice amp I garbage picked. That little amp sounds almost amazingish now thanks to this thing. But it sounds great through all of them. I have a real Rat and this sounded scarily close once I figured out the controls. I also have a bunch of other distortion/OD/fuzz pedals and this dude gives some of the big name, big ticket stomp boxes a serious run for their money. It runs the spectrum from broken up classic OD sounds to heavier fuzzed out OD and distortion. It's suitable for a ton of different styles. The Turbo switch changes the voice of the pedal significantly, and the controls provide a lot of noticeable variation. I would imagine it would be really good for recording because of it's versatility. I've had mine for several months and haven't had any issues with inputs, knobs, or switches malfunctioning. It's not built like a tank, so I'm not sure if it would survive serious road work, but it would definitely be a great backup to have just in case. And for just playing at home it will be more than sturdy enough. It's awesome sounding and super affordable so you don't have to feel guilty about buying it!!

Faithful little Rat/Turbo Rat. Great value for money, does the thing all Rats should, rolling off guitar volume doesn’t affect crunch level. Very useful to do dynamic builds that are dirty quiet and loud, not where rolling off the volume cleans it up, rolling off the volume just makes quieter distortion, not less distorted distortion. That’s what your low to mid gain ODs are for, a rat is a rat!

This pedal sound good with one exception. The volume nob cuts all the highs and mids. When it is on ten pedals sounds grate! And you get full usage of the tone control. The second the volume goes lower then 8 all the mid and high distortion starts getting cut and it sounds like a pillow is being placed over the speaker. At seven you can still get decent tone but you have to dime the filter, good mids ok lows but the highs are to shrill. When volume at 10 it sounds really really good. Only small issue is it could still be a tad darker.So overall for the price it is a good deal if you don't mind a huge volume jump when going from off to on. I wonder if this issue is common or if there is just on my pedal. Going to try and add a capacitor across the lugs to create a high pass filter on volume???

This is a clone of a very famous, similarly named distortion pedal. Most of you reading this will already know what I’m talking about - this part is for you. Yes, it is what it’s supposed to be. It’s still a rat, it’s just in a smaller cage now if you know what I mean. They might as well have labeled the vintage/turbo switch 80’s/90’s 😂. Excellent pedal for the value. If you don’t know pedals very well and just want to know if it’s any good, the answer is yes. It’s a great for lower to mid levels of gain. On it’s own not great for modern metal, but stacks GREAT with higher gain distortions to bring on the face melting. If you do not have one already, you will also need to order a power supply. Also, that blue LED will burn your retinas out, be ready with a sharpie or some electrical tape or whatever, heh.

I have mine set to sound like a very aggressive fuzz pedal . Slight fuzz with lots of growl . This isn’t a high gain type pedal . It can be set in a variety of ways giving you all kinds of rock sounds . For me this pedal does an awesome job for playing Black Sabbath . I also play a lot of Black Flag . Loud aggressive punk sounds great with this . I didn’t give it 5 stars because I really can’t reach the doom metal tones like I would like to but then again I didn’t play around with my amp settings . I have the frequency knob on my amp turned all the way down . Maybe playing around with that I could grab some heavier tones for this pedal to do doom metal . It’s definitely a great pedal but don’t expect it to do metal . I had an original Rat from the mid 80’s and never liked it , this one actually sounds better. I gave it away with all my other pedals and my amp to a friend before joining the Navy . I wish he didn’t get rid of all of it but he did about a year before I regain contact with him . He could have at least bought me lunch lol. Don’t hesitate to buy this if you are interested. It’s an awesome little pedal . My pedal board which I made goes like this . Black Rat , Donner Giant Metal , azure Chorus , Kokko Distortion and a Fab Danelectro delay pedal . It’s a great setup !!!! This mini pedals rock!!!!
