There was a solder drop on the cable. There was oxidation on the contacts. The cable had bend marks. See photos.

Review of CSI FPC Flexible Cable for Raspberry Pi 5, Pi5 Pi Camera Cable 22Pin to 15PinThe cable itself works fine when connected between my RPi5 and Camera 3 module. Video is stable and I don't see any issues. The only slight drawback (and this isn't really a fault of the cable) is that I'm using a GeekPi NO4 NVMe HAT and it has a slot to feed the camera cable up through to the top, however the width of the slot assumes that the camera cable is the width of the CSI connector, and not the wider width of the cable that it expands to right after the CSI connector on the RPi side (see picture). I ended up having to route the camera cable out the side between the RPi5 and the NVMe HAT.

I recently received the CSI FPC Flexible Cable, specifically designed to bridge the compatibility gap between the Raspberry Pi 5 and existing CSI camera modules. It is essentially something the foundation dropped the ball on by not being compatible.Pros:+ Compatibility Solution: The cable addresses the need to integrate new RPi 5 with existing camera modules+ Adequate Length: At 50cm, the cable is long enough to facilitate a variety of projects. Whether you’re setting up a security camera system with your Raspberry Pi or using it for OctoPrint in a 3D printing setup. I do OctoPrint for practical use, and sometimes others for fun.Brand Value: The cable came in a branded "Waveshare" box, which is a brand I had prior positive experience with.Cons:This should not have been necessary in the first place.
