We had an industrial rain water collection system that we installed heat trace on the exterior pvc piping. Insulators had covered the pipe and since their install was so costly, we had to find a way to find our fault without destroying the insulation. We use this to probe in several locations through a small slit in the outer shell of the insulation and find the cut in our heat trace. Worked great! The probe responded quickly to temp changes

The probe is supposed to be stainless however it oxidized terribly.
