Great little oil lamp! Wick is challenging to get in, you have to pull it to make it thinner, then twist it a bit to work it in. Takes a minute, but not the worst thing in the world. Don't leave too much wick out when you light it or the flame will be huge. I like the plate, though I did not experience any seepage.Worked well for our Bible story of the Found Coin, we lit a lamp and swept! Also an example during Parable of the 10 Bridesmaids. Seeing an oil lamp similar to those from Jesus' time doesn't change anyone's life, but it helps give one a more accurate picture when they hear the stories.

I don't think I would call this lamp large. However, it adds an authentic look to our period studies and the period drama we are doing. It also works quite well with no smoke issue; vegetable oil is inexpensive and easily accessible. The lamp would be a good replacement for candles if their fragrance bothers you.
