Great home test for anyone that wants to evaluate for potential mold issues. Recently we had a water overflow issue and a cabinet had gotten wet. Even after drying out the area, I felt that there was an odor. Others said that they did not notice anything. I wanted a test to know whether we had an issue before it spread to any wall area. At a separate property, the basement area had some water issues. A french drain and pump was installed. We were told that the discoloration was not an issue, however, I wish there was a test like this that I knew of then. I instead had to call out a company, which was very pricey. This is a very reasonable price for peace of mind. It is very easy to use and very practical. It would make a neat science project for kids, as well.

This kit has almost all you need. I think it would've been nice to include masking tape as I thought was pictured to help seal the dishes and also tape to an air vent or whichever surface of your choice. It came with 2 petri dishes. The lids do not snap securely so I used the sticky labels to help seal around the edges. I didn't want any spores escaping because once it grows well it's gnarly! It came with 1 pair of gloves and q tips to take samples to then transfer to the dish.I used 1 dish for air testing and the other for surface testing of my bathroom window sill where there is visible mold. Both grew mold. It took 4-6 days to get to proper growth for ID. The instructions state you should see growth in 2 hours which is laughable. The book with pictures of mold for identification only has small photos of the mold. I found the name & description helpful but I think this would be better to view online and offer multiple photos that show stages of mold growth for better ID. I used Google lens to help with this.I'm still not 100% certain of the mold type and danger so I'm ordering a more expensive kit that you can send off to a lab.If you're fine with guess work then get this. If you're like me and value your health more then go with the more expensive tests first instead of spending more money buying this first.Having said that, this is an EXCELLENT way to do an at-home SCIENCE PROJECT with the kids!I think this should suggest and/or include masks. However the ONLY mask I trust when it comes to MOLD spores is a respirator with the proper filters.I gave it 4 stars to use as a science kit. I would have given it 3 if using solely as a mold kit for reasons mentioned above.

This kit contains the bare basics (except a microscope) of what is needed to identify mold populations in indoor air environments. Here are some thoughts on this kit.Pros:- Includes the trays of gel and the bags to store them after mold spore collection.- Thoughtful in that they thought to include a pair of disposable gloves.- Instructions and identification guide is included but the English used could improve a great deal.Cons:- The English used throughout this kit leaves much to be desired, especially in the instructions and identification guide.Overall, this mold spore collection kit contains the basics, except for a microscope, to collect, grow, and identify mold spores in an indoor air environment. It does the basics well but the English used could be improved. If you can accept this level of quality, it is a decent kit.
