The 'square' bite of these pliers means you can grab nuts, pipe fittings, etc. cleanly and without tearing up the corners of the hex or having it slip because you didn't get a good grip. You do have to take more time to find the right setting, since the jaw-to-handle movement range is pretty small, but once you do it works really well. I wish I had these years ago.

These were not exactly what I was expecting, but they'll meet a different need from "channel locks"They are parallel smooth-jaw pliers with no teeth. Not at all good for loosening a faucet or as a substitute for a pipe wrench. The opening is limited on each setting to just under half an inch. That is, from fully open to fully closed is 1/2" of travel, even if "fully closed" is on the widest 2-1/2" setting. I hope that makes sense. The adjustment button requires a second hand so it's not easy to change mid-job, but rather needs to be pre-set to the fastener size you're working with.Mine came with a healthy amount of oil covering it (and now my hands)The handles are comfortable and long enough for considerable leverage, though at the widest I can't close them with one hand. The adjustment really is key, to get it just right and not too wide or narrow. A scale in both metric and SAE helps you get it right the first time.Five stars, but know what you're getting.
