You’ve probably seen the more expensive version in some of those mail order catalogs.. well, this one is no joke and stood-up for the grueling task, with excellent performance. And even comes with a sleeve to put it away for storage for the following big meal…so happy I invested in this item and you will be too.

Nutshell: The El Matador Meat Fork is a conversation-starting kitchen tool with a unique bull-themed handle. While its striking design may captivate some, it also presents certain challenges in terms of ergonomics and functionality. It undoubtedly serves as a conversation piece, but its practical application may leave some users divided. It stands out immediately with its artistic design, depicting a bull complete with a movable nose ring. This striking appearance is polarizing—those with a fondness for bovine imagery or a connection to bulls/cattle may find it appealing, while others might deem it crass, gimmicky, or out of place in a modern kitchen.Functionally, the fork features four sharp prongs designed for holding larger pieces of meat such as brisket, roasts, and poultry. The prongs are good for maintaining stability while carving and would be particularly useful for barbecue enthusiasts or those who frequently handle large cuts. However, the fork’s ergonomics are a bit of a mixed bag due in part to some of the aesthetic design choices. First, it weighs 14 oz, and some might find it overly heavy for the tasks. It’s big and heavy, and the weight contributes to a sense of quality but can also make the fork feel unbalanced and top-heavy. The handle, though visually impressive, can feel a little ungainly in the hand. This design choice prioritizes aesthetics over comfort, which may work for some but not others, especially those accustomed to lighter, more traditional carving forks, and are looking for a similar experience.Feature SummaryDesign: Bull-themed handle with movable nose ringMaterial: Chrome-plated zinc alloyWeight: 14 oz (399 grams)Function: Ideal for carving, shredding, and serving large pieces of meatCare: Dishwasher safe; avoid abrasive cleaning toolsErgonomics: Bit of a mixed bagFinal Thought: This fork is a blend of art and utility, best suited for those who appreciate its unique design and can overlook its ergonomic limitations. It’s a distinctive and durable kitchen tool that doubles as a conversation piece. Its striking design will undoubtedly appeal to some, particularly those with a connection to cattle or a penchant for unique kitchen gadgets, but may look out of place to others. If you're in the market for a meat fork and the bull aesthetics resonate with you, this could be a hit. For those prioritizing comfort and traditional design, other alternatives might be more suitable. Ultimately, the decision hinges on whether the unique design aligns with your personal taste and kitchen needs.

Please ladies, don't take offence. This is BIG. It fits well in my "man" hand and balances nicely.I had just finished carving up a smoked brisket and I always say "I wish I had a better way of holding this". I use the usual long-tined carving fork to hold the meat while slicing. You know, the kind that comes with the carving knife? I think that is really meant more for turning steaks, etc on the grill or passing out meat that is already sliced, not so much for the actual carving off the big roast. With those long-tined forks, I always have an issue in that the meat tends to roll as you're cutting and you end up pushing the fork in as far as it will go (usually till it hits the board) to keep the meat from twisting while cutting.I had never seen something like this "El Matador" before and thought "THAT'S what I need".FIrst thing: I have not had a chance to try this on a piece of meat yet BUT my first impressions are "this is what I've been looking for".You can see from the pics it is one big piece of metal (406gm/14.3 oz) which is almost a pound of metal. It has two long SHARP points (with temporary plastic plugs to cover those points) and two shorter prongs (no plugs). The metal itself appears to be burnished aluminum but the weight indicates that there is some heavier metal under the exterior if in fact this is aluminum. It comes with a drawstring bag for storage. There is a copper (?) "nose ring" that appears to be purely decorative.I mentioned I would use it for slicing brisket. It will also be very useful for slicing prime rib as well. Fowl like turkey? Maybe not so much as it depends on how one slices a big bird. I think this would not work well with fowl, only red meat roasts. As far as shredding? I don't think this is what you want. As everything is straight up and down, the angle on the blades isn't right for shredding. Plus you'd need two of these and there are better products out there for shredding (pork butt for example).I do have a place to store it. It is 7" long and almost 5" wide so a drawer is best. Don't think I'd want to hang it by the nose ring...but obviously the choice is yours. If you're into needing something to hold BIG hunks o' meat while carving, this is way better than your standard "carving" fork.5*

It looks impressive and it is. Heavy, sharp and will hold your roast steady like no fork ever could. I wish I’d purchased this years ago. Definitely worth it for big pieces of meat that you want to hold steady while slicing pieces of any size.
