Good buy, probably the best deal for the price. Everything is on top - quality, delivery time and packaging. Thanks to both - seller and Amazon.

I don't do any serious machining, so my requirements for accuracy aren't very high, but I'm actually really impressed by how well-made this is for the price.I have some old and very well-calibrated Starrett dial calipers, and I sometimes like to use them to see how close to a thousandth of an inch something's been machined. I couldn't test the longest dimension since they're only 6" calipers, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that all of the other dimensions zeroed the needle out exactly on one of the thousandths lines. That's pretty rare, in my measuring-for-pleasure experience, especially since a single hair from my head is almost exactly .002" which means that this vice seems to be machined to a finer accuracy than a hair's width.Anyway, when you unbox this thing you might be surprised to find that it's absolutely covered in grease in a sealed plastic bag. It's not a pleasant thing to hold in your hand when you first take it out of the bag, and you'll probably want a towel on hand. Even though it was basically caked in grease, the gear still felt a little gritty when I moved it up and down its full travel, but after a few times doing that (and kind of pushing the handle to one side or another and going back and forth a bit whenever I hit a sandy patch) it smoothed out beautifully. I wiped down the gear and removed as much of the original grease as I could, and after I applied a few drops of my own oil (Super Lube 52004) it was even smoother, and the shaft would even continue rotating a bit after giving it a fast spin.Oh, one more thing about how finely-machined this is. I don't know what the parts of a vice are called, but when you close it all the way and the block that moves with the gear shaft gets to the end it matches up so perfectly that it looks like the two blocks of metal become one. You can barely feel the line where they join with your finger, and you definitely can't see it unless you look super close.Basically what I'm trying to say is that you might get this because you're on a budget like me and then feel like it's a little weird (because of the weird packaging, all the grease, and the initially gritty feel and everything), but if you put about twenty minutes into cleaning it up and lubing it properly you'll all of a sudden have a surprisingly fine vice in your possession. One last thing. I actually don't even know what people would usually use this for, but I got it because I wanted a vice that I didn't have to bolt to a table and that I could pick up and move to different places. This works perfectly for that. It's heavy enough that it will hold things in place for my uses (drilling holes in guitar pedals), but I'm thinking about putting some rubber feet on the bottom for extra grip and safety against rotation.Dang if you're still reading this just know that if this looks like the thing you want to get, I say get it, and I bet you'll be really happy with it once you clean it up a bit.

The surfaces are square to each other as advertised. Operation is smooth and repeatable. The vise was larger than I expected, but that turns out to be an unexpected plus. I use this vise to square firearms parts and it does an excellent job. The larger size actually makes clamping small parts easier than the 2" toolmakers vise I have been using. I can get a finger up through the bottom to help position longer parts just where I need them. Excellent tool for a good price.

I checked this vise for flatness, squareness and parallelism, and all measurements were under 0.0005". A very good result and product and value.
