First off - this is a Shimano reel, so the overall quality is first rate. It's really a little jewel of a reel. The Sahara line of reels is what I'd call the 'low end of the high end' of Shimano reels, because the Sahara line offers features that are only found on the higher end Shimano spinning reels, like CNC cut gears and better drags. But one of the complaints of 500-sized reels is that the spools are too small to cast smoothly, even with very light line (I've put 2 lb test Trilene monofilament on mine). I've found this to be true with this little reel. It does not cast as smoothly as my slightly larger 1000-sized reels. While I think I can recommend the Sahara line of Shimano reels, my recommendation is to go one size up, to the 1000 sizes with larger diameter spools , for better casting.
